Chapter 372 - Changing Plans

Jason, having offloaded the two skins, leaves the town. Sure, it would have been nice to stay at an inn. The problem with that idea is more than enough people in the trade caravan will have thought the same thing. So since they weren’t exactly going to be thirsting after all the claws and teeth he had been gathering, Jason decides to move on. This little side trip didn’t put him too far off his path, but only because the roads had been designed to funnel people towards Havenline, no matter where you were going.

Not that he doesn’t end up settling down for the night soon after. Jason just feels safer being out in the woods than once of the overflow rooms that would likely be packed to the gills. Sure, none of the people working for the trading caravan would try to steal his gold, but he doesn’t know about any of the others who might be traveling with them.

Though just to be safe, Jason doesn’t set up anything that he would be sad to lose. Better safe than sorry so he makes sure to be ready to leave at a moment’s notice. In the end, he didn’t need it, but after gaining 500 some gold he had been a wee bit nervous.

Sure, having a roof over your head was assured after the world as a whole managed to take a step back and realized that not only was it morally right, but financially smarter, for everyone to have a place to live. But 500 gold is enough to upgrade from a simple place to live, to something well above average. Not that Jason would spend his gold on that.

No, Jason had his eyes set on upgrading his capsule. He already has been spending his money on improved features for his current capsule and the upgrade path available to him is spectacular. This is especially true with who his mother is. While it isn’t like there is some kind of secret invite only capsule, there are beta testing capsules. The only problem is, even with his mother’s connections, those things cost north of a million gold. So yeah, one of those pie in the sky type things.

Not like he needs it in the short term. Jason very much isn’t using even a small part of what his capsule could do for him. Just the fact his expenses in a month barely require using gold to denote it says something. Then again, most people tend to live on the silver economy. The fact Jason had tens of gold already was more of an outlier than not, even as a player and not a native.

Though as always, money is one of those easy come, easy go, type of things, so it doesn’t take long for Jason to move it around a little with the first bit of gold going to his irl body maintenance. Right now he was on the ten silver a day plan, which was enough to maintain his body, or at least it had been.

Now? Jason wasn’t certain if it could keep up with his body. From his past knowledge, he knew that cultivation tended to take a lot more physical power at the start. It didn’t matter if you were cultivating the mind, body, or soul. An early stage cultivator would require large amounts of food.

Sure, later on a cultivator will advance to a point of not needing to eat or even breathe, otherwise how would all those stories of high-level cultivators going into closed cultivation for years even work? Right now, though, Jason will need a lot more food and medicine than an average person, so decides to crank that body maintenance package up to the gold a day tier.

That skipped a few steps along the way, but Jason figures it will be worth it if only because the capsule will actively try to keep his body topped off with food and such. He would have taken it further, except after this tier of support the plan splits in two and the one Jason needs is costly.

The cheaper branch was for those rich people who wanted their irl body to be just as amazing as their body in NeoRealm. It wasn’t cheap of course, but the beauty plan was peanuts compared to the mil spec plan. As far as Jason could tell, that plan wasn’t really meant for people to buy so much as it was for the military to comp for their soldiers. They just left it as an option because even with how close things are to post-scarcity, money talks.

Jason pulls out of his capsule’s option panel and stands up to stretch. It was still early in the morning and he had really wanted to get all the money nonsense out of the way. He hadn’t quite managed to do so, but at least all the stuff he could fidget with while out in a forest was taken care of.

Not long after, Jason came upon a fork in the road and after a short trip on the connecting path is back on track. Sure, hitting up the town meant skipping one of the danger zones, but he hadn’t been all that hot with attacking a spider next when the spiders were the size of dogs. Far as he was concerned, that was worse than some of the bigger spiders. Small enough to still hide in the trees, yet big enough to overpower you.

Yeah, Jason was in no way sad about missing out on that. He wasn’t afraid of spiders, but that didn’t mean he liked them. Plus, that danger zone was a bit too small for his taste. The other places he had been were a lot larger than what he had experienced. In fact, for the most part, Jason had just been skimming the edge of them and avoiding any of the truly dangerous monsters. The spiders, however, were very compact and so the chances of meeting a truly life-threatening situation was increased.
