DMS Chapter 22

  DMS Chapter 22

Flinx almost laughed out loud when he was promoted to “Lord” from “Sir”.

“No. But this tower is temporary and would disappear after twenty-four hours.”

“I see. Of course, there will be a limit. If such a wonderful, magical creation is permanent, you’re not a wizard but a god! Nevertheless, the fact that it has water that can change temperature from hot to cold and that the temperature of the inside of the tower will always be the desired temperature, regardless of the season, will make this truly a wonderful, magical creation. I would want to live in it. What will happen if you were inside and the spell lapses?” Robert asked.

“I imagine that you’ll just be on the ground, and all of your belongings that are not part of the spell will scatter around you.”

Based on the balding man’s reaction, the temporality of the tower brought down the value of the spell in the man’s mind considerably. Flinx didn’t tell the man that if the spell was cast constantly for a year, it would become permanent, but considering his plans of going into the forest for possibly a considerable length of time, that point was moot.

After the two men examined every inch of the tower, Flinx asked Robert, while they were seated in the kitchen, how much the land would cost. He had no idea if the figure that the balding agent gave him was fair or costly since he didn’t know the value of the land in this town. At first, Flinx thought of using his mana stones, but he didn’t want to waste them buying property that he might leave someday, then he remembered that he still had around 14 kilos of white salt left.

“To be honest with you, Robert, the only thing that I have that I might use to trade for the land is this,” Flinx then presented one of the bags of salt that he still had left.

“What is that, Sir Flinx?” Flinx almost laughed out loud again at how Robert demoted him from “Lord” to “Sir”.

Flinx simply told the man that it was salt. Robert’s eyes grew wide when he learned that the bag of white powder was salt. The man tasted the salt and told him that it was acceptable for him to use the salt to trade for the land, but just one bag of the salt wasn’t enough. It should be at least three. Flinx simply retrieved two more bags of the salt and presented them to Robert.

The balding agent became highly excited, examining the three bags of salt. He then requested Flinx to keep the three kilos of salt in his spatial item and gave it to Robert when they returned to the government office.

When they exited the house, Robert said that it was all right for Flinx not to dispel the tower. The sun had already set, and the road was dark. Since Robert knew that Flinx was a mage, he requested a light spell. The only light spell that he knew was the Crown of Stars, so Flinx cast the level 7 spell.

Seven motes of magical lights that resembled the stars appeared and floated and rotated slowly above Flinx’s head. Robert gasped when he saw the spell that Flinx cast.

  Stolen novel; please report.

“That’s a most wonderful light spell, Lord Flinx!” Robert exclaimed, and Flinx just shook his head.

While the two were walking, the spell grabbed a lot of pedestrians' attention. There were only a few of them, though, and when they neared the government offices, Flinx immediately dispelled the spell.

Since it was already evening, Robert worked fast and soon, Flinx was holding a piece of paper stating that he owned the land that he fancied. He felt a little happy about that.

After all of that was done, Flinx decided to return to Anuel to inform him that he had purchased the land near the church. He thought of inviting everyone from the church for dinner. When he arrived at the church, Anuel welcomed him back. When he told the old priest that he bought the land nearby, Anuel smiled.

Flinx invited everyone at the church for dinner. Soon, four people were following him, and two of them were holding lanterns. There were three other people in the church besides Anuel.

When they arrived at the tower, everyone gaped at the glorious-looking tower that appeared before them.

“I didn’t know there was a tower here!” Anuel exclaimed.

“I conjured it,” Flinx simply said, then he invited everyone inside.

Much like what Flinx had done with Robert, the balding property agent, he gave the people from the church a tour of the three floors of his tower. Everyone gasped enthusiastically at every feature and decoration that they could see. They were excited to learn that the washroom and kitchen had unlimited hot and cold water. Their eyes almost fell from their faces when Flinx told them that the temperature inside the tower would be the same comfortable temperature regardless of the weather or the season.

When Anuel asked where the light source was, Flinx informed him that the whole tower would be lit by a sourceless light at any time of the day, but it could be dimmed or turned off if the owner wanted to sleep.

“This is truly a wizard’s tower!” Anuel sighed while looking around.

“Well, the tower is definitely good, but unfortunately, the spell needed to be renewed every 24 hours or else it would disappear,” Flinx told the old priest.

“I knew that there was going to be a limit on such a wonderful spell,” Anuel whispered.

Flinx almost laughed out loud when he heard the same comment from the priest that came from the property agent.

After the tour, Flinx spent around 300 dollars and purchased a lot of food from his system shopping site. He purchased four rotisserie chickens, a pan of baked mac, a pan of spaghetti, a pan of mashed potatoes, some bread, roasted pork, and a salad with dressing. He made a show of retrieving the food from the second floor into the kitchen since he didn’t want to directly show the priest and the other people from the church that he was conjuring things from thin air.

He also purchased some alcohol, and that night, the party went on until all of the food and all of the beer were gone.

Flinx thoroughly enjoyed the party, even though the four people partying with him were all old people. The fact was, dinner that night was a form of celebration for him. Celebration for his freedom, for new friends, for the new world, for everything that had happened so far. He needed that celebration because he needed something uplifting in his life.

Flinx knew that he was a broken man. He knew that every one of the Earthlings who were enslaved by the wizards was broken. How can they not be when they received painful torture several times a week? Even now, Flinx had to remove the curtains from anywhere he slept because the billowing cloth reminded him of the wizards’ robes, and that brought fear into him, especially when he suddenly woke up from sleeping in the dead of the night.

After the dinner party, Anuel and the three old people from the church went home. Flinx wasn’t worried that something would happen to them since the church was nearby.
