DMS Chapter 21
Looking at the spells that he first chose to buy, Flinx liked Galder’s Tower. The tiny tower was perfect for camping. The tower had everything an adventurer needed to rest comfortably. It had a living room, a kitchen, a bedroom, and a washroom. The only problem was, according to the internet, its defenses left much to be desired, but Flinx thought his other spells could handle those.
Not only that, if Flinx were in a place that needed to be defended against monsters while he rested, he would probably be in a group, and groups could assign shifts to everyone.
After several hours of practicing his spells, Flinx felt that he had become familiar with most of them to be able to guarantee that he wouldn’t make any foolish mistakes regarding the specific spells that he purchased. He thought about buying some more spells, but he decided to hold off on doing so since new spells needed to be practiced and mastered, and he saw that it was getting late.
Flinx flew toward the town. Before he exited the forest, he dispelled the Fly spells and cleaned himself using his Prestidigitation spell. He also examined all of his clothing to check if it had received any damage, but since he was flying while inside the forest, his clothing still looked relatively new.
The sun was still up, so he headed directly to the Adventurers Guild to report the goblin settlement and to inquire what steps he needed to take to purchase a house in town. When he arrived at the guild, which was one of the few four-story buildings in town, he headed to one of the counters manned by a girl.
“Hello, I would like to report something I found in the forest,” Flinx told the lady receptionist.
“You’re the foreign adventurer who arrived in town, right? What do you want to report?”
“I went to the forest to practice my spellcasting, but found a goblin settlement nearby. They numbered around a hundred, but I killed around eighty of them, and there could have been more than a hundred who were patrolling or hunting in the forest. The survivors escaped, though.”
The receptionist calmly noted down his report and told him that the goblins would be handled. Flinx then asked what he needed to do to purchase a house in town. The lady told him to go to the government office that handled such things and informed him of its location. Flinx thanked the lady and then left.
The government office building that handled the government issues for the town, like taxes, property sales, and such things, was beside the mansion where the mayor and his wife lived. Apparently, Flinx was well known since when he went to the property department, which was just a single table manned by a middle-aged man; the man welcomed him by name.
“You know me?” Flinx asked the balding guy.
“Everyone in town knows you. We have so few visitors that all new visitors will be known by the whole town after a few hours. The fact that your storytelling was supposed to be wondrous adds to that fame. My name is Robert.”
If you discover this narrative on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen. Please report the violation.
“I thought it was because the mayor’s wife and the guild leader of the Adventurer Guild visited me.”
“Oh, that was normal as well. Every mage, regardless of rank, will be visited by them sooner or later. Again, it was because we have too few visitors here. How can I help you, Sir Flinx?”
Flinx paused a bit and shifted his mental gear back to the reason why he went to the property department of the local government office.
“I want to purchase a house in town since I plan to stay here in this town for a while. I can’t stay in the church anymore since I was probably bothering the priest and the worshippers. I preferred somewhere remote since I will be practicing magic, and I don’t want to bother any neighbors. Am I allowed to purchase a property here?”
“I want to be candid with you, Sir Flinx. Normally, adventurers would rent a room somewhere in town or rent a house because adventurers, by virtue of their occupation, usually wouldn’t stay long in a single location. But if you really want to buy a land and a house, we do have some available that fit your requirements. It’s easy to own a house here because our population is not that great, and a lot of people move to the capital. Since the light is still out, I'll lead you to one of them,” Robert said. Then, the man stood up and gestured for him to follow.
Robert led Flinx near the church where he was staying, to his amusement. He learned that the church’s area where he was staying was the remotest and quietest location in town. Flinx was shown a two-story house. Its location was ideal, but the house itself was so bad that the best thing he could do with it was to destroy it using a Fireball spell and erect a new one.
Flinx then noticed another piece of land near the house that the agent showed him. It was inside a copse of trees. It was quiet, and the sound of nature felt to Flinx like nature was singing him a lullaby.
“What about the land with the trees near the church. Is it for sale?”
“Yes. But you will need a lot more funds to build a house there, and you might need to remove the trees, which, of course, will destroy its ambiance,” Robert answered.
“I can conjure a wizard’s tower there, so no need for construction or to remove the trees. Can we go check it out?”
The two then went to a park-like land, and Flinx fell in love with the area. The fact that the sun was almost setting brought a golden glow to the trees, which brought a more magical and mystical feeling to the place.
“You can conjure houses?” Robert asked Flinx wonderingly.
“Yes. Would you like to see it? I can dispel it anytime I want,” Flinx said, and Robert nodded excitedly.
First off, Flinx visualized his ideal Galder’s Tower, which was the one that he selected when he was looking at the designs for Galder’s Towers created by the netizens. Thank goodness for inspired netizens, since he didn’t have to depend on his imagination to create the tower.
The design that he chose was a typical three-story round tower that looked like the Rook piece from a chessboard. The first floor was the living room and kitchen in one. The second floor was the washroom, and the third floor was the bedroom.
Flinx cast the Galder’s Tower spell, and the tower from his imagination appeared in the middle of the copse of trees. He was delighted at how the tower looked since it looked astonishingly beautiful. He did practice with the spell before, but those towers were the generic ones that appeared when the spell was conjured without any thought. This one was the first Galder’s Tower that he imagined from the drawings that he chose from the internet.
He saw that Robert was gaping at the gorgeous tower.
“Let’s check the inside,” Flinx told the balding property agent.
Every floor of the tower looked exquisite. There’s nothing that Flinx would want to change except perhaps to add decoration that would personalize the tower. He knew that he wouldn’t, though, since he was lazy in doing things like that.
“Is this a difficult spell for you, Lord Flinx?” Robert asked.
