“The salmon are up to something, look!” Was what broke me out of my train of thoughts.
Why do I never get a moment to think?
The salmon were swimming around our ship in a huge circle. They were creating a strong spirit magic attack but I could abuse their preliminary magic circle. 7 shadow clones went out and drew primal runes that used the circle the salmon were swimming as a basis.
You guys should know better than to mess with your natural enemies!
The salmon needed a lot of time to finish this, which meant I had enough time to make sure I didn't mess up the runes and could ‘borrow’ their circle.
The clones hijacked the circle and started adding mana runes to make a freakish [Tsunami]. It was my first time cannibalizing someone else's magic circle, but this was the first time someone took the time and effort to make a giant magic circle in front of me.
The hijacking was complete and enormous walls of water moved outward after the ship and water level decreased by several meters, or well… all of the meters.
The ship shook and the humans were being unoriginal and continued freaking out.
“W…what is that!?!”
“Is he an Alledra Demi?”
“Did he just drain the ocean?!”
Giana sat down next to me and looked up. “is this a [Tsunami]? This looks… different…”
Well, it drew power from hte ocean and the enormous magic circle. I didn’t expect it to end up like this though…
Massive walls of water were still moving away from us, leaving behind the drained ocean. The ship crashed on the ocean floor and people complained yet again.
The water wall was quite intimidating and it was assuring that it wasnt coming at us but there was one problem; the water would return at some point and our ship was now on the ocean floor, meaning we were quite in it’s way.
So ehh Giana, what is your strongest defensive skill?
“I don’t know but I think [Water Fortress]. Why?”
I pointed at the walls of water moving away from us, which were slowly shrinking.
So, what will you think that will happen to all the ocean water when my skill drops? We’re at the bottom of the ocean at the moment…
Giana fell silent. “Oh, this is not good. I will start preparing for it then. I’m not sure if it can guard us against that…”
I’m counting on you.
Giana gave me a dazzling smile and got up. She got all her tails out and I could feel that she was gathering and concentrating mana.
The ocean floor was exposed and some gutsy fishermen had jumped out to collect the dead spirit salmon and other marine life that had been left behind and were flopping around..
Someone must have discovered that it was possible to touch dead spirit salmon. More and more fishermen followed, and soon the ocean floor was filled with fishermen…fishing.
Does this count as fishing? It doesn’t, right? Is fishing specific in that fish need to be alive and in the water? I don’t know.
Unsure of how long the ocean floor would stay ‘dry’, I hopped out and helped out. The fishermen needed 2 or 3 people to haul these heavy spirit salmon and worked in teams of 4. I had no problems carrying 11 at a time, then again, I’m a beast kin and have 9 tails.
Why were humans the most successful race on the planet again?
The younger fishermen had the time of their lives as they could also catch aquatic life which would normally be a challenge. I would admit, this stunt was overpowered for fishing, and attacking it just has the downside of possibly killing whoever was still on the ocean floor when the water rushes back.
“Hail your greatness, may this mortal ask you a question?” I smacked the assassin and snacked on a random fish I had picked up. I was unsure what type of fish it was, but it tasted great.
What do you want? And stop treating me like a god.
“I can do no such thing! I was just wondering what the name of this miracle is. “
It has no name, I just hijacked their magic circle and it turned out to come out as some [Freak Tsunami].
“Truly the act of a god!”
Do you want to end up as this fish?! I despise gods! I’m a force of nature at best. Oh, also you might want to get back to the ship.
I pointed up at the wall of water in the distance which was now shrinking rapidly.
In several of seconds, that water will all come rushing back. I hope Giana’s defensive skill will protect us…
The uncertainty on my face shocked the assassin, and he ran back, but not without telling people to get their asses back on the boat. Giana approached me while munching on some herrings she must have fried.
“The wall is slowly falling; shouldn't we get back to the ship? Want some fried herring?” She said as she offered and I accepted.
Well yeah, but I’m unsure if anything could save us from the ocean’s wrath. How is your defensive skill going?
“Ready to cast whenever!”
How reliable! Just one question… how will you make it back on time to the ship?
“Will you carry me?” Giana asked undisturbed, more focused on her snack than our predicament.
Opportunistic vixen…
Giana got her wish and got carried back to the ship. She [Transformed] into… ehhh herself… maybe a version that’s better in defensive skills?
She spread her arms and started singing…opera? Her song felt mighty and more of her voices added to it.
A magic circle appeared with exotic runes and a fortress of water appeared around the ship. It had 12 sets of gates, and every set of gates counted 9 gates.
Wow… this thing looks impregnable!
“Well, I thought so too, but someone managed to break through it quite recently.”
She was doing it again, singing and talking at the same time. I still wondered how she does that.

Wait… someone broke this? What kind of overpowered opponent were you fighting…
“It was you who broke it silly! Well, your illusion. Anyway, excuse me, I need to focus!”
The water came rolling down. It sounded familiar as I had lived near a waterfall for months, but this was on a different scale.
Everyone clung to whatever they could find, but nothing happened. No shockwave, nothing.
Giana had protected us from getting crushed, getting wet and from any shockwave the impact made.
The first 3 gates of every set shattered at impact, but that was it, nothing got through. There was one problem though. The water was filling up this space. We were currently on the ocean floor and the water was rising and going over the water fortress.
Giana’s song ended, and she looked up to the rising water level. “Uh oh…”
Yeah, I didn't see this coming either…
The water pressure shattered the 4th gates and panic set in
I’m slowly starting to realize that these things don’t just happen to me, it seems race specific. Or did I drag Giana down with me in this?
Right, so we have another problem.
Salmon were attacking the fortress, but it didn't seem the fortress cared about their attacks, it did care about the mounting water pressure. The 5th gates were struggling and would break soon.
Where did those salmon come from? Is it a new wave?
“That is possible. Let's turn this fortress into an elevator! I will raise the fortress; can you make the elevator shaft please?”
Sure.
The division of labor was simple. Giana would cause the [Water Fortress] to rise, and I would create an elevator shaft with frost magic.
That’s the easy part, the hard part is doing that while assaulted by spirit salmon and that under a time limit as the longer I take, the more gates will shatter.
Training in the ocean sounded like a terrible idea when I did so 8 years ago, never knew it was actually a brilliant idea…
I jumped out into the cold, turbulent ocean and my tails knew exactly what to do. Ocean combat was almost as normal for me as combat on land.
Some frost magic here, some frost magic there! And the elevator shaft was forming! I felt an impact as I got blasted away. My tails had anticipated the attack but getting disturbed was still annoying.
The elevator started to rise, and my focus was slipping. Giana was too busy to deal with anything else so my [Blood and Thunder] activated, and I electrified myself to regain focus. It also got amped up to zap anything that got near me. I have become what I wanted to destroy!
Well not really, but I had a bad time with electric eels, and now I’m almost like one.
The salmon were relentless as they did anything to slow me down, to which they were successful. It was hard to keep up with the ascending elevator.
Time for some triple clones!
It sounded like a great idea until they floated to the surface, as they were quite buoyant… That sucked…
Time to [Fade] out of existence then.
The salmon lost sight of me and I could finish the elevator shaft unperturbed.
Giana let ocean water flow into the shaft to fill up the space beneath the elevator for increased efficiency.
Everyone arrived safely at the surface. Well, not really, a portion of the adventurers died, probably of decompression sickness. Humans are so fragile that it’s starting to become a pain in the ass.
Some were fine, but most had the bends and were in pain and Giana was busy treating them.
The 6th and 7th gate shattered during the ascent, so it’s not like we could have gone any slower… The assassin seemed fine, and he made a small altar made out of driftwood dedicated to us…
I hopped on board, dropped out of [Fade], made a frost bow and destroyed the altar with an arrow.
Are you alright Giana?
I asked as Giana looked exhausted. “I’m just a bit tired, I will be fine but…We have 12 dead from decompression sickness and the majority is in severe pain… I cured most of them, but I’m not used to keeping up the support in battles as severe and long as these.”
That’s fine.
The 8th north gate shattered due to the salmon spamming attacks and lasers on it.
These salmon seemed to have somewhat planned this. They didn’t send their whole group at once. The first wave had been wiped out, and the second wave was attacking us now. The problem is that 4 more 10-meter class salmon have appeared, which is a problem…
A community with more than 1 leader often doesn’t work out, which means that there should be a big boss…
Do I tell the panicking and injured fishermen? I know that there is at least a third wave and a possible boss battle. It would be convenient for us if they came at us all at once, though…. Can I lure the third wave?
Illusions? 9t are their natural enemy, they’re either super weak or super strong against them. Only one way to find out. It’s time to take being a 9t seriously.
I shattered several illusion layers, grabbed a shard and got my [Illusionary Dagger].
This is uncharted territory and the magic circle tells me nothing as I still can’t read these exotic runes, but it should be intuitive, like foxfires, once I start messing around.
I held the [Illusionary Dagger] to the sky and admired it. It looked like it was made out of iridescent glass and was more of a kris dagger. Its edges blurred with the surrounding.
If this dagger were a drawing, the line separating the dagger from the surrounding, would be blurred, but this dagger was doing it in reality.
I’ve had this skill for so long, but never did much with it. 9t’s illusions interfere with reality, although that is at its peak. [Elgard Overload] could be considered that peak but… is it fair to say that our illusions interfere with reality if only one skill could do that?
I’m a shitty illusionist, to be honest. I realize that there is way more potential in illusion magic than what I’m doing. The best thing I did with illusions was my Nightmare dungeon. Why am I so shit?
“…is! Agnis!” Giana broke me out of my daze.
Huh what?
Everyone seemed to be staring at my [Illusionary Dagger].
“What is that?!”
The ship shook before I could answer.
“Hey Silver Torrent, I’m interested in that dagger too and more but…” The ship shook again and wood flew everywhere. “Could you do something about those salmon?!”
Ah right.
I jumped off the ship on to the ocean’s surface. The opponents were still focusing on the ship and not on me.
Changing foxfires without knowing how their magic circles worked, was easy, so this should be too. The dagger blurred and countless copies appeared.
Guess I can really say goodbye to physical daggers.
A dagger flew off and got lodged into the ship, hiding it from the salmon.
All eyes on me! I hope your scales are tough enough to survive my improvisation!
The daggers flew out similarly to my [Dagger Torrent] but no wires were needed as these daggers didn’t need to adhere to logic or physics. The first step to interfering with reality.
Most bounced off the tough scales off the salmon, but some drew blood.
Hmm, this skill isn’t based on power or skill, but possibly my imagination and understanding reality and knowing how to break it.
The goal was to either swiftly wipe out this wave of salmon and to seem as if it tired me, or pretend that this wave of salmon is pressuring me or even killed me. Being an ‘assassin’ and having made the Nightmare dungeon should pose enough experience to pull this off.
Right let’s try this again but this time as a 9t.
