Chapter 1: Reincarnation

He was in excruciating pain, floating around in pure white light. He really regretted not investing more in vitality at this point, he had been a glass cannon who relied on speed and magic, to include magic imbued dagger attacks. Why was he not fading away? He should well and truly be dead. He floated around for a long time, eventually becoming numb to the pain of dying.

The next thing he knew he woke up crying with some strange man with pointy ears standing over him, if he didn’t know any better he would think he was holding him, he tried to tell him to get out of his face but all that came out was a cry, confused he tried to punch the man instead and saw a tiny fist attached to a tiny arm flying in front of his face. The man was talking gibberish he couldn’t understand, and he was really starting to freak out. His crying became frantic.

The pointy eared man passed him off to a pointy eared woman that put her breast in his face, he felt the ripple on his lip and latched down on it, it didn’t take much for him to pass out.

He, I mean she, was six months old now, he finally started to understand the strange language the elves around him were speaking and found out she was no longer male, very surprising discovery there. Here he was in the middle of one of those lame anime tropes he remembered from before the System. He had been reincarnated to another world, not as exciting when you already had all the cool stuff from the genre due to the System.

She heard her parents talking about levels, so she knew there was a system of some sort here as well, however she hadn’t been able to access a status menu yet, but she felt like she had retained some of her dexterity from her old life because when she tried to, she crawled very fast, she decided not to show it though. She felt like people would fear her if they found out what she was capable of at level 0.

Her name was Elora, and she was in a high noble house from what she could gather. There was a female human looking after her most of the time, only bringing her to her mother when she was hungry. Right now, she had gotten away from the human and was heading up the stairs, she wanted to explore the upstairs because she was always kept on the first floor. The human came up the stairs and grabbed her just as she reached the top of the stairs. Being a baby was exhausting; it takes so long to get anywhere.

She was five years old now and had learned that you couldn’t unlock the system until you were twelve and you had to kill something to unlock it. Her teachers had told her you didn’t get a class until you were ten and that her family naturally had a high affinity for lightning magic and I would probably unlock a lightning class at level ten if I was lucky. My father has some lightning skill scrolls in the treasury he plans in giving me for my twelfth birthday alongside a level one-hundred beast they’re going to hold down for me to kill.

Apparently, there’s a title you get for slaying an enemy one-hundred levels above your own. These titles were not something in her old system and were new, so she was looking forward to getting as many as she could. From what she gathered the title would allow her to get ten percent to all stats. That is an insane boost later on, possibly even immediately since she was pretty sure she retained her stats, speaking of which, there were more stats in this system than the old system, on top of that there were also professions and classes, you start by leveling your race from 0 to 10 and then you unlock a class selection and can acquire a profession by being taught.

Her father had also been blessed by some god with a lightning affinity. This really confused her, she learned in class that gods existed and there were hundreds, if not thousands of gods. She learned that gods used to be mortals and this system has something called grades. They went from G to A and sometimes S rank, but seeing as I was an elf, even though I’m only level 0 I’m already a D-grade, which I will see on my status sheet in seven years.

I had already snuck off and killed a bunny to try and unlock the system, but it did nothing, so it seems like twelve is a requirement. It’s probably for the best it didn’t work because I doubt that bunny was level 100.

Tomorrow is my twelfth birthday, father has already acquired a level one-hundred and two bunny for me to kill to unlock the system, it’s in a cage in father’s office. He wants to hand feed me levels to unlock my class, but after learning about skill levels I told him I wanted to increase skill levels first before unlocking the system. I decided I would lean into my family’s natural affinity for lightning, if I still have my dark affinity, which I feel like I do, I might unlock a higher rarity dark class than light, we’ll see what I get when I level to ten, but I’m going to try to level my lightning skills to at least level ten first.

I found out there is a D-grade area nearby with a lot of mid-tier D-grades that would be perfect for leveling my skills, they’re giant boars with high vitality, endurance and toughness, but extremely low agility, which I gather is the same as dexterity. If I have the exact same stats as when I died, which I think I do, it would be the perfect place to level my skills before leveling to ten. The trick is going to be getting away to level, I figure I’ll sneak out at night to train so nobody finds me leveling there.

“Are you excited for tomorrow, Elora?”

“Yes father, we are going to take the bunny to the field to prevent any blood from staining our yard, aren’t we?”

“Nonsense, there is no point in leaving the house, remember, Natalie has a high-level cleaning skill, she will have no problem cleaning the mess in the drawing room.”

“I had forgotten about the cleaning skill; I was worried she would have to scrub it and I didn’t want that.”

“We will eat breakfast first thing in the morning, then you will unlock the system and learn the skill books. Are you certain you don’t want to go ahead and unlock a class tomorrow?”

“Yes father, I think if you level your skills, you have a better chance at unlocking a high-rarity class. I’m hoping to start with an epic class.”

“Have you decided on your profession yet? I want to get you an instructor for that now so that you will be able to unlock your profession alongside your class. The quicker you unlock it, the quicker you can start growing your power."

“I want to do alchemy, I think.”

“Alright, because you can’t unlock your profession yet with wanting to train skills, I’ll get you a brew potion skill book to allow you to level it, since if you’re right about the high-rarity class, it might work for professions as well. Have you set a goal for your skills yet, you don’t want to fall too far behind your peers.”

“I feel like I should have them at least level ten, but I don’t want to wait more than a year before acquiring my class.”

If I wait a year, I might be able to hit the level cap in the skills before acquiring a class with my current plans, but of course I’m not going to tell them that.

“Alright, that sounds like a good plan, I will put a posting up on the job board to teach you alchemy tonight and have them set up interviews for the day after tomorrow and have you an alchemy teacher by Monday.”

  “Thank you very much father.”

“I know it’s still a little early, but why don’t you go ahead and head to bed, you were born at nine in the morning, so we will unlock your system at that time, Arthur already knows to have breakfast on the table at eight tomorrow instead of your normal ten.”

“Yes father, I wouldn’t dream of being late tomorrow, I’ve told Natalie to wake me up at seven, and father?”

  “Yes Elora?”

“Can I get heavy armor with a sword and shield, I want to make sure I don’t get hurt.”

“I’ll set up an appointment with Garkock for after the interviews, I was planning on bringing you with me anyways and letting you make the final decision.”

  “Thank you, father, good night.”

With that, Elora went up to her room and changed into a night gown for bed. She sat in front of the mirror and braided her hair for bed, she hated it being all over the place in the morning and found that Natalie also had an easier time with it if she braided it before bed. She wondered at what age her father would allow her to go adventuring, because at that point she was certain her level would skyrocket. She finished braiding her hair and laid down on her bed, it was more comfortable than any bed she personally had in her old life. Pulling the covers to her chin she went to sleep.
