Chapter 6: The Birth of the New King Bug!

  Kelvier planned to flee!

He had been planning for several days. Humans had so far restrained themselves from using nuclear weapons.

Except for the nine smaller-yield nuclear bombs that had been dropped with the Brazilian government's approval in the territories of Brazil and Argentina, nuclear weapons had not been used.

Now, humans had developed radiation guns to counter the King Bug, which would definitely be packed into nuclear bombs if used.

Although Kelvier lacked detailed knowledge in this area, he had never been optimistic about the King Bug.

When he died in his "previous life," he was a Level 4 Zerg Swarm, which was the limit a nation could tolerate. Upgrading to a Level 3 Zerg Swarm would shake the foundations of a nation!

  What would the nation do?

Over the years, under severe criticism, the nation had relocated cities and villages near the forests. Upon reflection, the deeper implications were chilling.

The borders were now almost deserted...

  Nuclear weapons might be employed!

Kelvier felt a chill, so as soon as he emerged, he thought about how to detach from the swarm.

Suddenly, Kelvier tensed, feeling as if something remotely controlled him!

His body turned involuntarily, buzzing as he flew for a short while to a clearing.

Kelvier struggled continuously, the inexplicable control filling him with fear.

  Was it the King Bug?

A thought struck him, and he suddenly dared not struggle anymore. He still allowed himself to be controlled, slowly flying. It seemed that the controlling force did not know he could fly, not just glide, and only controlled him to fly a short distance before making him land, then controlled him to fly again.

After a while, he arrived at a small clearing.

A strange command entered Kelvier's mind, which, according to his human consciousness, meant: "Graze!"

  Then the force disappeared.

Kelvier felt a chill, almost certain that the mysterious force controlling him was the King Bug! This was a swarm with a King Bug!

No wonder the human war against the King Bug was so arduous; the King Bug's control over the Zerg had reached a terrifying extent! It was as simple as using one's own fingers!

If the King Bug also had some intelligence...

Now, Kelvier dared not think about fleeing. He observed along the way; the King Bugs that looked the most like himself were the most numerous, probably worker bugs.

He calmed down, deciding to observe the situation further first.

The clearing in front of him was simply enclosed with some branches and stones.

Stolen from its original source, this story is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.

Kelvier remembered the "grazing" command and was surprised. Could the King Bug understand grazing? What was it grazing? Ants? Spiders?

Soon, Kelvier's eyes widened in shock!

A gargantuan wild rabbit appeared before Kelvier, its size nearly three times larger than normal, almost as big as a large cat! The creature was bloated with hideous tumors all over its body, resembling dozens of water-filled sacks, some of which oozed pus.

Kelvier's jaw dropped. Could this be a farm-raised wild rabbit? How could a rabbit grow so large?

The answer soon became apparent as several insects resembling mosquitoes, equipped with long syringe-like proboscises, approached. These "King Bugs" swiftly injected the rabbit, causing it to convulse and fall to the ground. They seemed to inject something into the rabbit, causing the masses on its body to visibly swell and the muscle tissue to grow at a visible rate, eventually forming new tumors.

Kelvier was utterly shocked and could only curse in disbelief. There were even bugs specifically bred for ripening!

The complexity of the King Bug society was astounding. Staring dumbfounded, Kelvier watched as the rabbit struggled to its feet, staggered a few steps, then collapsed again. It seemed to fear this treatment and started to flee towards the fence.

At that moment, several worker King Bugs swiftly pounced on it, biting into the rabbit and drawing blood instantly.

The rabbit, seemingly accustomed to such attacks, managed to retreat and the soldier King Bugs let it go.

Observing more closely, Kelvier noticed these soldier King Bugs were slightly larger than the ones from the wormholes, almost the size of bees. This suggested that what he had thought were adult soldier King Bugs could still grow larger.

After days of observation, Kelvier came to a chilling conclusion: the Zerg were hiding their true strength! This realization unsettled him further; what he had known as a Level 4 Zerg Swarm might already be at Level 3 with their hidden capabilities!

A Level 3 Zerg Swarm could provoke any nation to desperate measures. Kelvier was certain that once the Zerg Swarm reached Level 3, nations would resort to nuclear weapons.

As mere cannon fodder in a nuclear war, his chances of survival were virtually nil. This worry plagued him for days.

He spent the days slowly plotting his escape. During this time, a rabbit, probably pushed to its limits, died. Immediately, a group of soldier bugs descended on it, leaving nothing behind.

The Zerg Swarm continued to grow recklessly, increasing Kelvier's worries day by day. He knew a final showdown between humans and the Zerg was inevitable.

Now, he could hardly tell if he was more human or bug. Having fought and potentially died for humanity, he felt he had fulfilled his duty as a human. Now, he thought perhaps he should strive for the growth of the Zerg.

Moreover, after days of contemplation, he remembered that he had been sent on a reconnaissance mission on that fateful day, suggesting the higher-ups might have discovered something yet still sent him and his comrades to their doom!

Kelvier was angry! But what could he do now? Lead the Zerg swarm to slaughter humanity? He didn't know which side to take anymore. All he wanted was to distance himself from the war.

Imagine digging a small hole by the seaside, marrying a golden female bug, facing the sea, with spring blossoms all around… Although these were mere jests, Kelvier, having died once already, was indeed tired and no longer wished to be embroiled in such bloody affairs.

Yet speaking of peaceful coexistence was utterly out of the question. After all, this was a war for survival between species, irreconcilable!

If he were still human, Kelvier might now be lying leisurely on a large rock, chewing on a blade of grass, gazing at the clouds drifting across the sky.

  "Buzz—"

A thunderous noise exploded next to his ear, a sound so intense it seemed to resonate through his entire nervous system. Startled, Kelvier wondered what was happening.

He saw the swarm had plunged into madness—a terrifying frenzy that swept through the entire swarm. "King! King! King!" The swarm had gained a new King Bug, and now there were two of them!

The frenetic celebration of the swarm alarmed Kelvier, and gradually, he too felt the feverish excitement stirring within him. His wing cases on his back sparkled with green lines, almost glowing.

Buzzing noises filled the air as the swarm flew chaotically around, filling the entire forest with their dense shadows. They bumped around like drunken flies, the commotion lasting for a full half-hour before gradually settling down.

Compared to before, it was now deathly quiet. Kelvier was apprehensive...

What phase were they entering now? A full-on assault on humanity?

Somehow, Kelvier felt a chilling calm, the kind that often precedes a storm...
