Chapter XLIII Forty Three

Dink climbed the stairs while whistling a merry tune. He could feel Estra's annoya the sound through their bond. She remained silent as Dihem to a random door. He approached the door and ko the beat of his whistling.

He could hear the sound of someone inside ing to the door. It opened a short time ter to reveal the haggard form of Flea, the gnome woman he had interrogated earlier. She was wearing a thick robe with a bloodied towel pressed to her bruised lips. Her expression of shock riceless as she removed the towel c the lower half of her face.

"Oh, fuck. What now?" Flea hesitantly asked, she had a slight lisp from the tooth knocked out by Martha.

"It's you! That's fortunate. We o borrow your quarters for a little while. You still have business at the mine. Or, of course, you could stay," Dink suggested with a scivious stare. The look on his face caused the Gnome woman to pale with fright.

"Nah, mate. It's all yours. Be my guest," Flea invited, stepping to the side auring inside.

The moment they passed her, she stepped outside the room, smming the door shut behind her. Dink's ears twitched in time to her footsteps fleeing down the wooden stairs. Inside was dark from the drawn curtains. A ray of sunlight from between them revealed the roomโ€™s tents.

It was bare except for a wash basin, bed and a pile of discarded miner's clothes. The only decoration is a rge mercury mirror on the wall. A grin slowly formed on his face as he turo face the two women.

Martha sprawled Dinkโ€™s feet with her tantalising ass on dispy, her hands delicately ed behind her back. She was resting while orbs of light circled the kneelira. Mana swirled within her, visible beh her skin as she processed the Draic Bloodline she had just ied.

Dink could faintly feel the formation of a draic aura emitting from her. It was almost imperceptible, nowhere near enough to be sidered a bloodli did have a very real effe her physique, filling her already fwless skin became with vitality. Her e to the mana in the air surrounding her was strengtheo its peak. Her traed long enough for Martha to begin drifting off to sleep on the hardwood floor.

Dink shook himself alert, waking Martha before she could fall asleep. She groaned in obje as he helped her to her feet. Her eyes opened wide with surprise after seeing the lights h aroura.

  โ€œWhatโ€™s she doing?โ€ Martha asked.

โ€œSomething that I hope doesnโ€™t attract the wurmโ€™s attentio gets here. I may have to ehat doesnโ€™t happen. Which is very frustrating, Iโ€™m not equipped to hunt a dragon,โ€ Dink replied, waving away her question. He quickly got dressed and equipped his bastard sword discarded on the floor. โ€œStay here and make sure she wakes up. Iโ€™ve got a job to do.โ€

Dihe room and desded the stairs. At the bottom, he discovered an enraged G being easily restrained by Axion. The other miners had already left and the on room had been tidied to its previous dition. Di magiing from the kit, he ighe struggling pair to walk toward it. G noticed him almost at the same moment, being calm as he watched him pass.

Axion loosed his grip allowing G to break free. He tactlessly leapt at Dink, throwing a punch. Dink hardly spared him a gnce, pushing a bar chair toward him. The chair tangled in Gโ€™s feet, tripping him to the floor. Dink shook his head after hearing the loud audible crashing of Gโ€™s body weight breaking the chair into pieces. He tio stroll across the on room without pausing.

โ€œHey! I just paid to have that fixed. Academy mages arenโ€™t cheap, you know!โ€ The voice of the innkeeper shouted from the kit.

The innkeeper opehe newly repaired door to look into the on room. Seeing Dink, his face dropped retreating baside. There was the sound of something barring the door oher side. Dink stopped with a heavy sigh, he ged dire to head toward the exit. Riva noticed him heading to the exit.

She was attending to the weakeahlea at a table by the fire. She made to get up, but Dink waved her back dowepped over the groaning form of G to walk to their table, Axion joining him.

He pulled out a chair and sat on it reversed, resting his on the back atop his interced fingers. He sidered the iron cage oable, the mushroom monster looked tent.

It was g happily after the chaos it caused by ing Tahleaโ€™s mana.

I have an idea. I donโ€™t like it but itโ€™s the only option I have. What I didnโ€™t tell Flea was that putting the eggs back wonโ€™t spare Burrowton from the wurm. Itโ€™ll only give them until the eggs hatch, plenty of time for us to be long gone. Now, Big mama is ing. I could feel her prese the moment of my climax. She felt the signal sent out by my Draic bloodline.

โ€œWhat is it, Dink?โ€ Riva asked, looking at his depressed figure with .

โ€œSigh, Iโ€™m going to have to kill the wurm and I donโ€™t really have the energy for it,โ€ Dink replied with a heavy sigh.

โ€œA wurm destroy castles, how do you io fight that?โ€ Tahlea asked in shock, f herself alert.

โ€œWith that,โ€ Dink said, gesturing at the happy Myid oable.

โ€œDink old-boy, I donโ€™t think thatโ€™s wise. Youโ€™ve seen it yourself what happens to Insipid addicts, what makes you think this would be any different?โ€ Axion objected.

โ€œWe just have to roll the dice. The wurm is ing for me now, the eggs are sedary. Weโ€™ll never outrun her. So, itโ€™s this or being dinner while weโ€™re on the road minding our own business,โ€ Dink said, pushing himself to his feet and grabbing the iron cage.

โ€œDink, Iโ€™m ing with you. I โ€™t let you go without backup,โ€ Axion firmly stated, standing from his seat. Dink nodded in agreement.

โ€œWeโ€™re ing too,โ€ Tahlea weakly added.

  โ€œNo, youโ€™re not,โ€ Dink replied.

โ€œIโ€™m a sense-amplifying Attuned. Iโ€™ll be useful for warning you when the wurm is ing,โ€ Riva objected.

โ€œWe have to go into the mio the wurm , your crossbow wonโ€™t be effective against it. Youโ€™ll be putting yourself in needless danger against a foe you โ€™t even harm. Only Axion will be ing with me. Murkuk, you stay too,โ€ Dink said, gng at a form curled in front of the fire.
