Chapter 26: To know one another

  "Why not."

He sighed, "It's just that I need to look after someone."

I instantly knew who he was talking about, "That girlfriend of yours?"

His cheeks flushed with red instantly, "She is not my girlfriend!"

I laughed as I raised my hand in surrender. " I'm just playing with you here." I patted him on the back. "But I'm proud?"

  "Proud of what?"

"Proud of you. I'm seeing some genuine growth from you, Zac."

He chuckled as he looked away, "You think so?"

I nodded, giving him a thumbs-up, "Trust me, I know so. Anyways, what are you going to do with that girl?"

Zac shrugged, unsure of his predicament. "I'll do my best to make her feel welcome here, that she belongs here with us."

Seeing Zac's caring side was always lovely, but he usually kept it hidden from others.

If a woman like this was doing this to Zac, it just meant she was something else.

"Tell me, what does she do again?"

  "She's a medic."

A medic? That was something that we didn't have as a profession here.

Whoever she was, she would be a great asset to the Village of Facia because only one other person could have acted as a medic.

"I think you should ask my wife for advice."

  "Y-Your wife?" Zac immediately stammered.

I slowly nodded in confusion, "Yeah, my wife Kassie. What's with that reaction?"

He frantically waved his hands in the air, "Nothing! It's just. . . She scary."

I sighed in defeat as I placed my hands on Zac's shoulder.

"Believe me when I saw this, my wife is anything but scary."

  Zac nervously nodded.

Seriously? How was Kassie getting away with this kind of thing? I mean, the last thing that Kassie was was scary.

Except for when she's mad, which is scary, and I can assure you that you never want to experience it in your life.

"Besides, you'll be surprised when I say she's quite goofy."

That was enough for Zac to let out a slight snicker, "Okay, I'll find her when I have the time to do so."

"Good man." I patted him on the shoulder. "You should return to your buddy Louis; he's been waiting forever."

"Right." Zac nodded, "See you later!" He moved away as Zac and Louis returned to talking.

It seemed that we were going to have some permanent people staying here in the Village of Facia.

I stretched my arms, yawning from talking to everyone; this was more draining than killing all those bandits.

I seemed to recall something I found while fighting with those bandits.

I wasn't bothered enough to see what they had dropped, but they dropped some inscriptions that probably didn't mean anything.

If I couldn't read it, I want to think it would mean it's utterly irrelevant to normal human beings.

My stomach began to grumble even louder. I hadn't eaten in what felt like years.

All I could think about now was the delicious food I would eat at home with my lovely family.

Seriously, I wonder what Kassie was cooking up for lunch. I expected nothing but amazing from her.

I was never going to hell with her that.

But she already knew she was a great cook compared to me; I was a mess.

I was good at being a mess.
