Chapter Seven: Jungle Tiger Cat
"This... this... where is this? Hell?" Lu Yufeng slowly opened his eyes, feeling a wave of soreness throughout his body. He used his hands to prop himself up and stand, but immediately clenched his teeth in pain.
Lu Yu had never thought of himself as a good person. His hands were stained with the blood of countless people, and he would not have believed that he would go to heaven after his death!
"Is the sun in hell this poisonous?" Lu Yufeng covered his eyes from the glare, cursed silently, and then began to observe the surroundings. This was a dilapidated house, with a broken roof that allowed sunlight to shine through, indicating it had been abandoned for some time. However, the more Lu Yufeng looked at it, the more he felt something was off - the style of this house seemed too ancient.
"Child, are you awake?" A slightly hoarse voice sounded from behind Lu Yufeng. Lu Yufeng immediately turned his head and saw an old man brewing medicine with a cracked ceramic pot.
"Kid?" Lu Yufeng was certain that the old man was staring at him, somewhat curious. Then, he suddenly discovered a shocking phenomenon - his body had become extremely small, just like a ten-year-old child's. What on earth was going on? He had never heard of people shrinking after death!
"Kid! What's wrong with you? Those damned beasts, how could they lay such a heavy hand on a child!" The old man's face suddenly showed an indignant expression, thinking that Lu Yu Feng had been beaten silly by those people just now.
"Where is this, old man? Is this hell?" Lu Yufeng was also a member of the Blood Killers. From initial panic, he immediately regained his composure and said something strange in a tone that made him sound like a ten-year-old child.
"Child! Don't be afraid! This is not hell, you are still alive!" The old man looked at Lu Yufeng with some kindness and asked warmly: "Child! What's your name?"
"My name is Lu Yufeng, Grandfather. My mind is a bit fuzzy, what's going on here?!" Lu Yufeng asked the old man with a very puzzled expression.
After the old man's explanation, Lu Yufeng finally discovered a fact that he was not dead but had crossed over. As someone born under the national flag and growing up in the midst of war, Lu Yufeng never thought he would encounter such a situation, let alone cross over into the body of a beggar boy.
Lu Yufeng also felt some sympathy for the original owner of this body after hearing the old man's story. This little beggar was so hungry that he stole a small bun in an inn, and then suffered a severe beating. Fortunately, he met this kind-hearted old man who paid for the bun and saved the dying little beggar, taking him out of the city.
"Good thing you're lucky, kid! Two days ago, a kind-hearted person gave me some loose change. Otherwise, that shopkeeper would not have let us off so easily!" The old man sighed and continued: "Fortunately, there are also some medicinal herbs in the mountains outside the city, and I happen to know some folk remedies. Otherwise, you might have died at the hands of those people too!" The old man sighed again.
It wasn't until later that Lu Yu Feng learned that the old man was actually the village chief of a small mountain village. Due to famine and other reasons, he had left his village in search of a way out for his people, which is how he ended up meeting Lu Yu Feng in this distant place and rescued him.
...
"Grandpa... there are some wild fruits here, I've tried them all, they should be edible, just a bit sour and astringent, you try some!" Lu Yufeng said to the old man in front of him, holding out several fruits wrapped in his clothes.
It has been more than two months since Lu Yufeng crossed over. After recovering from his injuries, he discovered that his current body was in a terrible state, to the point where even sprinting was a struggle. Lu Yufeng could only imagine what kind of life the previous owner of this body had lived.
Lu Yu Feng and the old man did not dare to return to that small town again, fearing another unexpected event, in case they didn't even have the ability to protect themselves.
"Good boy! You've worked hard!" The old man looked at Lu Yufeng with comfort, and his eyes were also moved as he looked at Lu Yufeng's thin body. Since he saved Lu Yufeng, he found that he had rescued a worthy person. In the more than a month since they left, Lu Yufeng had been taking good care of the old man, saving him a lot of trouble.
"Child, you have two as well!" The old man handed the fruit to Lu Yufeng again and said with a very kind tone.
"Grandpa... I've already eaten, this is for you!" Lu Yufeng gave the old man a silly smile.
"Child, let's leave quickly, there are fruit forests, generally with fierce beasts!" The old man was eating the fruit, suddenly remembering what the hunters said about the forest when they were in the small mountain village, immediately stood up and said to Lu Yifeng.
"Good!" Lu Yufeng, while going out to find fruit, also discovered that this thicket was not simple. Relying on his keen insight, he found that there were many dangerous auras in the thicket, and immediately agreed.
Roar!
Just as Lu Yu and Feng were about to leave, a loud roar suddenly came from behind them. From the sound of it, they knew that what was roaring was definitely not just a simple beast.
"Run quickly!" The old man pulled Lu Yu Feng's thin body and immediately ran towards the outside of the forest, but how could they run fast with one being old and frail, and the other having a small build?
Roar!
The roar grew louder and closer, and in the blink of an eye, it was right behind the two men. Suddenly, Lu Yufeng felt a fierce tearing sound coming from behind him, and then he was pounced on by the old man, who pinned him to the ground. In that instant when they were both pinned down, Lu Yufeng saw a fluffy paw swipe over his head, creating a gust of wind that stung his face.
This beast missed a hit and immediately stopped, with a hint of doubt in its eyes. It was curious how these two weak humans managed to dodge its attack, considering that even the big shot on another mountain couldn't evade its attacks.
Lu Yu Feng finally had the chance to see what this wild beast looked like. It was a beast that looked very much like a tiger, but its body wasn't as big as a tiger's, roughly about the same size as a wolf.
"Tiger cat!" The old man also saw the beast, immediately let out a cry of surprise, and a hint of fear flashed in his eyes. He had heard hunters from their mountain village mention this thing before, it was extremely fierce, even those hunters, not ten or eight of them, didn't dare to easily hunt this beast, he didn't expect to encounter it today.
"Child!" The old man turned his head to look at Lu Yufeng, a resolute glint flashing in his eyes as he said seriously: "Child, I'll think of a way to hold back this tiger cat later. Don't look back, hurry and run! The farther the better! Remember, don't look back!" The old man slowly got up from the ground, slowly moving his body, the tiger cat's gaze also following the old man's movements.
The old man knew they would definitely not be able to escape, and the only way out was for him to hold off the tiger cat with his life, then let Lu Yifeng escape. This was their only hope! In his eyes, Lu Yifeng was still young and shouldn't die in this desolate forest. Lu Yifeng's survival was more important than his own; he had lived a few decades as a memorial hall, and was already an old man on the verge of death. He placed all his hopes on Lu Yifeng.
"Grandpa... what are you going to do?" Lu Yufeng said dazedly, he had already guessed what the old man was going to do, but he didn't want him to do that, because in these two months of getting along, they had developed a deep bond, and for someone who had never experienced familial love before, Lu Yufeng felt a strong warmth from the old man. How could he let the old man stay here alone? Moreover, this old man was his lifesaver!
"Child! Remember! Live a good life! If there's a chance in the future, remember to take care of Little Mountain Village for me!" The old man's eyes flashed with determination, clearly having made up his mind.
This tiger cat was also surprisingly cooperative, and had no intention of attacking. It couldn't understand human language, so it didn't know what the two humans were saying. It tilted its head, looking at the old man for a while, then at Lu Yifeng, as if considering which one to eat first.
"Damn it! Look here!" The old man suddenly grabbed a withered tree next to him and pounced on the tiger cat. It's said that when people face death, they will burst out with unprecedented strength, and the old man's speed and power just proved this point.
The tiger cat's attention was immediately drawn to the old man's voice, and a thread of anger flashed in his eyes. He hadn't even laid a hand on this insignificant human, yet the human had dared to strike first, then took a step back with his hind legs, assuming an attacking posture.
"Roar!"
The tiger cat let out a thunderous roar that shook the mountains and forests, then pounced on the old man with a speed and strength that was several times stronger than the old man's.
