34 - Chicken Shock

  “Mike, Ethan, Jake!”

Liam’s eyes were blazing, his teeth clenched so tightly the words seemed squeezed out.

The shrill, piercing cry echoed through the Starlight Amusement Park, as if someone were butchering a pig!

Mike looked apologetic. “Sorry, Liam, I’ll make it up to you!”

“Heh!” Liam sneered. “Some things can’t be solved with compensation, or else there wouldn’t be killings out of rage!”

Mike gritted his teeth and said with visible pain, “Liam, I’ll buy you a +12 katana. How’s that?”

Liam was stunned for a moment, then hurriedly asked, “Are you serious? No joke? You’re really going to get me a +12 katana? That’s gotta be over a thousand bucks!”

  Mike nodded weakly.

“Mike, no words needed. You’re my best bro!” Liam shouted excitedly.

“Whatever makes you happy,” Mike said with a forced smile.

  Liam then turned to Ethan.

In that instant, the smile vanished from his face, replaced by icy coldness!

  “And you?” Liam asked coldly.

“Liam,” Ethan said, hanging his head, “I need to buy personal training classes with my paycheck, but I can power level for you for a month!”

Liam nodded. “Alright, I’ll reluctantly accept that!”

Then, Liam turned to Jake with a jovial expression. “Boss, don’t you think you owe me an explanation?”

Jake smiled back. “They’re all compensating you, so of course, I will too. How about this: I’ll transfer you to a new position with a starting salary of ten thousand a month.”

Liam's body and spirit jolted with excitement, staring at Jake in disbelief, stuttering. “B-Boss, are you serious? Can…can I handle the new job?”

“I think you can, and you’re perfect for it,” Jake said, smiling.

Liam’s eyes lit up. “Boss, I’m a piece of steel, forged and refined! Wherever you need me, I’ll go! I’ll climb mountains of knives and seas of fire!”

  That was a ten-thousand-dollar job!

Looking across the U.S., how many college graduates could earn that much right after graduation!

Mike and Ethan watched with envious eyes, drool nearly escaping their mouths.

“Damn it, if I knew there was something so great, I’d put my old life into it” Ethan beat his chest, full of regret.

Mike was also filled with remorse.

The story has been illicitly taken; should you find it on Amazon, report the infringement.

“Right, boss, you haven’t said what the job is yet?” Liam asked, regaining composure.

Jake rested his chin on his hand, speaking casually, “I think our amusement park needs a professional equipment tester, someone who tests all the rides before opening every day to make sure there aren’t any malfunctions!”

Liam’s expression froze, and his words died in his throat.

Mike and Ethan exchanged a glance and burst into uproarious laughter.

“Liam, that job’s great, really suits you!”

“Yeah, ten thousand a month! Where else are you gonna find a job like that right out of school!”

Liam "thumped" and knelt on the ground, panicking.

  “Boss!”

  “Bro!”

  “Please, let me go!”

"How about you? Seeing you were so envious" Jake asked.

Mike and Ethan stopped abruptly, scurrying away in an instant.

  Are you kidding me!

That’s trading your life for money!

Only a moron would want a job like that!

Even Iron Man couldn’t withstand doing that stuff every day!

Liam and Liam pulled themselves together, supporting their weakened bodies, crawling and scampering away.

Jake watched the fleeing figures, lost in thought.

Looks like I need to hire a new employee to do the testing!

No sooner said than done, Jake returned indoors, opened the All-People Job Search Platform, and posted a job announcement.

  ————

  Starlight Amusement Park Job Posting

Due to business development needs, our amusement park is hiring a new employee. The job description and benefits are as follows:

Job Description: Responsible for testing all the rides in the amusement park and identifying problems in a timely manner.

Benefits: Base salary of $10,000 plus benefits.

Note: No requirements for education, height, etc. The only requirement is to be brave and fearless.

  ————

“Okay, done.” Jake pressed enter and published the job announcement.

“I wonder how many people will come for an interview. I hope they won’t be too surprised!” Jake suddenly smiled.

If Mike and the others were here, they’d run as far as they could!

Because whenever Jake smiled like that, it meant someone was about to be unlucky!

With everything done, it was closing time at Starlight Amusement Park.

After seeing off the last visitor and a few employees, Jake arrived at a construction site next to the Hyper Velocity Coaster.

The day before, when he fulfilled the special guest's wish, in addition to gaining a lot of Fame Points, the system also awarded a special facility.

Jake had been busy with the park and only now had time to check it out.

“System, put the special facility here,” Jake called out. “Choose the first placement method this time; just let it appear directly. No need for manpower. Anyway, it’s just a small building; no one will think it’s strange.”

Before he finished speaking, a square building rose from the ground in front of Jake.

The whole process took less than a second.

As the dust gradually settled, the building's full appearance came into view.

It was a semi-open building. Except for the front, the other three sides were solid walls.

A tin cabinet stood at the front.

At the same time, a person wearing a chef's uniform was standing inside.

It was an artificial intelligence robot, identical in appearance to a human, specifically designed to make food for customers.

  “Ding, special building generated successfully.”

  Ordinary Fried Chicken Shop

  Rating: Two-Star

Description: A small shop that uses the most precious ingredients and high-end cooking techniques to make the most unpretentious food.

  ————

“Just a fried chicken shop?” Jake said with a disappointed expression.

He thought it would be something special.

A fried chicken shop wasn’t anything rare.

Just something you could find everywhere.

“I'm actually hungry, make me a fried chicken leg and lets take a look." Jake said.

The robot in the fried chicken shop pointed to a QR code on the table and said coldly, “Pay first!”

“Are you kidding me? I’m the boss!” Jake shouted, dissatisfied.

The robot didn’t react, saying impassively, “Pay first!”

“Fine, I won’t argue with a robot!” Jake reluctantly took out his phone, ready to scan the code to pay. “How much is a fried chicken leg? Five bucks or ten bucks?”

“A fried chicken leg is $198,” the robot replied.

Jake looked up sharply, staring at the robot in disbelief, instinctively shouting, “What did you say? One fried chicken leg is $198!?”

  Damn!

  This is a rip-off joint!

A fried chicken leg for $198!

You should be robbed instead of charging people like that!
