Kael wiped the sweat from his brow, staring at the fallen goblin. The forest seemed almost alive with expectation, the sunlight flickering like a signal. He had survived his first encounter—but barely.
Before he could catch his breath, a soft voice called from behind a tree.
“Hey, you there!”
Kael spun to see a girl about his age, with silver hair tied into a high braid and a bow slung across her back. Her eyes glimmered with sharp intelligence. Another figure stepped out—a tall, broad-shouldered man in heavy armor, a longsword resting across his shoulder.
“We saw that fight,” the armored man said. “Not bad… for a Level 1.”
Kael’s chest tightened. “You… you can see my level?”
The girl smirked. “Of course. Everyone who awakens here is under the system’s eye. Names, levels, classes… it all shows.” She tilted her head. “I’m Liora, Archer class. And this is Dain, Knight. You?”
Kael hesitated. “Kael… Class unknown.”
A case of theft: this story is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.
Dain grunted. “That explains a lot. But class or not, you’re alive. That’s what counts.”
A notification shimmered in the air:
Quest Available: Goblin Menace
Location: Greenwood Village
Objective: Eliminate 5 goblins threatening the village
Reward: 50 XP, 20 Gold, Basic Loot Chest
Kael blinked. “A quest?”
Liora nodded. “Yes. You want to level up? Complete quests. Gain loot. Survive.”
Kael glanced at the trees, uneasy. “But I just—”
“Don’t think,” Dain said firmly. “Act. That’s how you grow here.”
The trio set out toward the village, moving cautiously along the winding forest path. Kael’s system interface flickered as he noticed new details:
New Feature Unlocked: Party System
Party Members: 2 (Liora, Dain)
Shared Buffs: +2% XP gain when together
Kael tested the system. “Shared buffs… okay.” He frowned. “But what if one of us dies?”
Liora’s expression hardened. “Then the others carry on. That’s reality. Don’t dwell on it.”
The path opened into a small clearing. Ahead, Kael could see the signs of goblin raids—burned carts, overturned barrels, frightened villagers hiding behind fences. The air smelled of smoke and fear.
“Remember,” Dain whispered, drawing his sword, “we’re a team. Cover each other. Watch for traps.”
Kael swallowed. His hands tingled with nervous energy. “Alright… let’s do this.”
From the edge of the clearing, a goblin scout leapt forward. Its jagged spear aimed directly at Kael. He raised his fists instinctively.
Goblin Scout attacks Kael!
Damage: 5 HP
Kael HP: 105/110
Kael gritted his teeth, dodged, and struck back with a flurry of punches he barely controlled. Kael hits
Goblin Scout: 7 damage
XP Gained: 7
Goblin Scout HP: 3/10
Liora loosed an arrow from her bow, piercing the goblin cleanly. Dain swung his sword in a wide arc, finishing it off.
The interface flashed:
Quest Update: 1/5 Goblins eliminated
Party XP: +10 each
Kael’s chest swelled with a mixture of relief and exhilaration. “This… this is amazing,” he muttered.
“Keep your head,” Liora said, scanning the treeline. “This is just the beginning.”
And with that, Kael realized something. The forest was dangerous, yes—but it was also alive with opportunity. Every fight, every quest, every step forward was a chance to become stronger.
He wasn’t just surviving anymore. He was beginning to fight—and grow.
