Chapter 3: Love is kind
Cynthia couldn’t sleep. She slept well until about 2:47am and then woke up. She tossed and turned until her alarm went off at 5:30am. It was the worst possible thing for her. “I cannot believe this has happened to me”, she thought, “today of all days. Why today?”. She got out of bed and began to prepare for work.
Ahab smirked while he watched Cynthia panic while getting ready for work. She was tired because she didn’t have a good night’s sleep so she was also moving slower than usual. She looked at her watch and it was already 6:50am. She needed to leave already to be at work on time but she wasn’t ready. She frantically rushed to finish brushing her teeth and packing her things before hurrying out of the door. “Please let the traffic move today” she thought to herself. “Nope.” mumbled Ahab, as he looked through the traffic to see if he had influence over any of the drivers. “Ahah! There’s one…” and just like that, a traffic accident that added 20min to the journey.
Cynthia was frazzled but tried to stay positive – thinking “at least the traffic gave me time to do my makeup and hair”. She didn’t look her usual, neat self. It was easy to see she did not get enough sleep. “Morning Cssynthia…” George said coyly, and really labouring the “s” sound in her name. He could see she had a bad morning and felt giddy. Cynthia didn’t have time to care or show her irritation, “Hi” she said as she motored past him towards her office.
Jude was already at his desk, he saw her come in and watched her scurry from the elevator to her office. His desk was in the far corner of the office next to Cynthia's. You had to walk past all the desks across the hall and then come down past the desks in a “L” shape. Usually, everybody would look up and today was no exception. Virtually everybody watched the entire time as Cynthia hurried to her office. Jude felt for her, he has been in situations like this where it feels like the eyes of everybody is watching over you. He could tell that Cynthia knew everybody was watching and was desperate to get to her office as fast as possible. Jude got up to help her as she got closer because he could see her files were slipping and she didn’t have a good grasp. As he reached down to help carry, she looked up at him gratefully and mouthed “thank you”, and the two of them entered her office.
Interference.
Seeing the calming effect that Jude was having on Cynthia irritated Ahab who then decided to remind her of that meeting she had which was the worst meeting ever. She hated reliving the experience. She had never felt so small and so humiliated in her life and today was the worst possible day to experience it. Cynthia could feel her anxiety building as Ahab triggered scene after scene of her worst memory. They flashed into her mind and she felt her dread grow. Ahab recruited Fear to come and help. “Aah, Cynthia… poor little Cynthia… I’ve missed you.” Fear said. Fear asked Ahab what was going on, “Is there a special occasion or are we triggering her just for shits and giggles? Either way I am fine with it… I loooove the fealing of their fear. I love feeling as it grows through their body and begins to overtake them like this wave of distress. It’s exhilarating. I live for it…”. Ahab pointed, both Fear and Ahab looked to at the big boss in his office. “You see him”, pointed Ahab, “She’s got her first meeting with him today as the strategy manager. He’s made it clear that he is interested to see how she will grow the company. He even mentioned to her that she can show him why she was better than George for the position…”. Ahab lingered and relished the effect that him and Fear were having. Fear asked “who do we know that works him?” “Nobody, unfortunately.” said Ahab. Jezebel entered and saw what the two of them were doing and decided to get involved.

George got up and decided to go and speak with the big boss. He had been milling over some ideas that He wanted to implement so seeing that his big boss was free, he decided to go and have a casual chat. At 9:30, there was a knock of the door. Cynthia was standing there. She had an outer calm, but was quivering internally. “Cynthia, so nice of you to join us” the big boss said. “Join us?” Cynthia asked. “Yes, I though since George was already here sharing some of his ideas, it would be good for you to hear them and give some feedback. George can sit in on our meeting – you don’t mind do you? Do you want the new guy? Your new hire, what’s his name…” “Jude” “Yes, Jude, thank you George, to join us?”
A or The Meeting?
Cynthia was in disbelief, but sensing she might need an ally, agreed. She sent Jude a text and asked him to come to the office for the meeting. About 3 minutes later, Jude knocked on the door and entered. The big boss stood up and before Cynthia could even stand, George motioned to Jude with his hand and said “this is Jude, he’s our new hire to replace Cynthia. He’s got a background in economics you know, like me.” The big boss stretched out his hand and Jude grabbed it. “Strong handshake. I like that in a man” said the big boss. “Thank you Sir”, said Jude. “It’s great to meet you.”
The big boss turned to Cynthia, “Right! Cynthia, over to you. Do you need to connect to anything?” “Yes Sir, I have a prepared a presentation.”. Jude reached out to Cynthia and gestured for her laptop, “I’ll plug it in and set it up for you and work the keys. You can focus on the presentation. Just let me know when to change slides.” Jude got up and walked over to a chair beside the tv in the office to set everything up. “Why am I here?” Jude thought to himself, “Let’s just see what happens. I’ll use this as an opportunity to learn.”
In Heaven.
“That’s it Jude. You’re doing well. Be there for her…” God thinks to himself as He watches the interaction between Jude, Cynthia, and George unfold in the office of big boss. “Cynthia, I know you need help, I’ve sent you Jude. Use Him. Trust Him...”
