The Difficult Command and The Forced Choice

  Liuguang Sect.

Everywhere, only black ash was swirling. The Liuguang Sect had completely collapsed. The ground had turned black. Houses had been reduced to ruins. And the people were horribly terrified. They could not leave the Liuguang Sect because an invisible net was keeping the entire sect locked down.

Panic spread through the crowd over the mysterious death of Prince Lao Duan a few days prior, of which no one had any idea. Everyone had gathered in one place, scared and huddled together. Only a small section of the market city remained where people were hiding in the surviving homes.

  Then one woman spoke fearfully:

"Even Prince Lao Duan’s corpse has been missing since that day. I don't know what will happen to us. If the Prince couldn't survive, how can we?"

Hearing this, one man became deeply agitated and started arguing:

"How dare you say all this? There are children with us; what will they think if they overhear? We have finally managed to send a message to the Ming Jing Men Sect. They will surely come to help us. Until then, stay brave and do not think such things."

This provided a little courage to everyone.

In the Ming Jing Men High Council, Shen Jichuan made a decision. The assembly waited for his words. The hall was submerged in silence. After some deliberation, Shen Jichuan finally announced his decision. He stood up, and the rest of the assembly stood with him. He said in a sharp voice:

"Considering the situation, we have decided that Mo Yan will be sent to the incident site to conduct an investigation."

Taken from Royal Road, this narrative should be reported if found on Amazon.

A council member immediately protested against this decision, flaring up:

"But Head, you know that the Devil is there! What if Mo Yan tries to help him? If that happens, will you take responsibility?"

Hearing this, Shen Jichuan remained silent for a while. Then, after a long pause, he spoke:

"That will not happen. He knows that if he makes a mistake this time, just like the last time, the Devil will bear the consequences. Not him. So, I don't think Mo Yan will break his oath."

  Shen Jichuan then reassured everyone:

"You all may rest easy. Mo Yan cannot make a mistake. Mo Yan and his twenty disciples are being sent to the Liuguang Sect immediately. Go and inform him."

He wrote this message on a blank sheet of paper and gave it to two disciples, instructing them to deliver it to Mo Yan. Hearing his command, the two disciples rushed away towards Mo Yan's chamber, where his disciples were standing guard as usual.

Seeing Shen Jichuan’s disciples approaching, Su Nian blocked their path and asked:

"You cannot enter. Please tell us whatever the matter is first."

The disciples relayed the full message and handed over the letter. Reading it, Su Nian became even more crestfallen. This was cruelty. Mo Yan was being forced to put a stone over his heart. But he too was bound by his duty. He took the letter inside to Mo Yan and gave it to him.

Mo Yan opened and read the letter. But what was written there truly hurt like a strike against his emotions. Master Shen Jichuan had written:

"Mo Yan, you are being sent to the Liuguang Sect to handle the situation. But if Yu Sui is there... you must return immediately. That very instant. You must rescue the people there and bring them back safely. But if you try to help him again... all your spiritual power will be stripped away, and you will live the rest of your life as a common mortal."

After reading this, Mo Yan said nothing. His face was calm, expressionless, as always. But inside, a storm was silently brewing. His soul was being attacked from every direction. Every time, an attempt was made to break him, and especially, to keep him away from Yu Sui.

But if he could see Yu Sui under this pretense, then this was an opportunity for him.

At that very moment, he told Su Nian:

"Prepare to leave for the Liuguang Sect. We are leaving now."

Su Nian remained quiet until now, but he too had hope that they could at least meet Master Yu Sui, see him. His heart also felt slightly lighter, and he left.

Outside, he informed everyone that they were leaving for the Liuguang Sect with the Master immediately. Some disciples went and arranged for horses, and began preparing for the journey.
