228. Rickal (Book Four)

Now although a new Chief of the central Clan was appointed, for all intents and purposes now Chief Lago was still in fact of the Sixth Tier.

Rick definitely had the ability to forcefully evolve his Goblins beyond that point, but they still needed to gather the necessary essence and reach the peak of whatever Tier they were on, which meant he still wanted to try and do the same for the Seventh to the Eighth Tier.

But none of his Chiefs had reached that point as of yet, though with all the fighting that they were handling on the front instead of the other Goblins, he hoped it would not be too much longer before he had an opportunity to try just that.

Because even if he only managed to have one singular Goblin reach that Tier, it would immediately shift every single thing about them, and he could not even begin to fathom just how powerful they would be if he managed to raise all fourteen of his Chiefs into Eighth Tier.

Fourteen Tier Eight Goblins would immediately make them the strongest power on the whole continent without a shadow of a doubt. There is not another country, empire, or force that had that many beings at the Eighth Tier of power. But of course this was only wishful thinking, and the Goblins and Rick were a long way from one of them being able to reach such a level of power, but the Goblins pressed on.

The Chiefs fought at the front, everyone else lived their lives, and things moved slowly but positively for the Goblins.

In fact it wouldn’t even be a stretch to say there were at peace.

It was kind of hard to fathom, but they were at peace. Even though they were still being attacked at the fronts, they were still at more peace than they had ever been for as long as they could remember.

Even before Rick, as he likes to say, brought war to their doorsteps, they never saw peace. They were not strong enough to fend off the fronts by themselves without suffering some form of loss. That was not the case today.

Between the twelve Chiefs that were currently active and at the Seventh Tier of power, all of them could handle the fronts by their lonesome for days on end, which was something they did not need to do because they had backup and could rotate and always remain fresh, so there were no losses suffered there.

Which meant every other Goblin in the Dark Lands of Mir had time and the peace of mind to do quite literally anything else, and that is what they did.

Well except that anything else was really focused into a couple of different areas: growing and making families, training and becoming better fighters, and a few different projects that Rick presented to his people.

The tale has been illicitly lifted; should you spot it on Amazon, report the violation.

One of them of course was currency.

Rick was right in a way that once the Goblins he ruled over began to number in the hundred thousand or perhaps the millions, it would be harder to maintain their current lifestyles.

All the Goblins needed to be fed. All the Goblins needed to be housed. All the Goblins needed resources.

Eventually these resources would be limited in a way, and perhaps there was a future where Goblins would be able to trade with members of other races for resources they did not possess.

To do that, some form of uniformity among their currency was needed. But that was only half the picture. The other half was that Rick did not envision his Goblins having to fight tooth and nail for everything they wanted in life for the rest of their lives.

They needed other things to do, other places to put their time and effort. What if a Goblin simply wanted to be a teacher? How would they be rewarded for their efforts? What if a Goblin just wanted to tend to flowers all day? How would they be rewarded for their efforts?

This was the lifestyle that Rick wanted for his people. He wanted a civilized society where a Goblin could choose to do whatever it is they chose to do, and they should have a way of earning income to justify these choices that they made.

There was not a single cafe shop in the Dark Lands of Mir for example. There were not any restaurants, no places to buy books, no places to learn how to dance, nothing of real leisure existed within the Dark Lands of Mir.

Currency would not necessarily be a fix for all of this, but it would help drive different ventures and different avenues for his Goblins.

The problem though with creating and distributing currency was not as simple as minting one million different coins and just handing them out to every single Goblin. No, things needed to have value.

Things needed to be judged properly. Things needed to be documented and written in stone of what it does cost, what it could cost, how many different forms of currency, how many different coins would they have, paper bills like Rick was familiar with back on Earth, would there be a banking system?

So many different questions needed to be answered, and it would take a long time for these questions to be answered in full.

In fact, since Rick presented this task to his Chiefs and his people, only one real question had been answered and written in stone.

  The name of the currency.

Something that Rick had not a single iota of input on, and he did not even know about it until a document with a stamp of thirteen of his fourteen Chiefs was presented and laid on his desk.

  Rickal.

That was the name of the future currency of Goblins near and far. Rick one hundred percent cringed at the sight of his name being made into a currency, but with so many of his Chiefs already agreeing to it, he saw no reason to push back against them for something like this.

He would allow them this win.

Maybe he would have pushed back a little harder if he could see a few years into the future where Rickals were being used not just within Goblin territory but outside of it, and everyone would come to know that it was short for Rick. Maybe then he would have pushed back some, but unfortunately for Rick he cannot read the future, and his future self will have to deal with the embarrassment this brings.
