After grueling hours fighting endless harbingers, the unit has recieved reinforcements from Eurasians back at Arnhem. Now, the battle may turn around.
"Rinmann, can you still fight?"
She nodded her head in approval.
"Yes ma'am! Looks like their numbers are decreasing anyway."
By this point in the battle, only 3 harbingers remain with no reinforcements in sight.
After drinking a bottle of water, she scanned the field for another target.
And sure enough, she saw the one her allies were fighting.
She sped her vehicle past the Challengers, grabbing the enemy's head and piercing the neck at its back.
Looking around, the other two harbingers were getting taken care of by the Eurasians so she decided to head back.
Meanwhile, the order to retreat had also been given to the remaining NADUR forces.
"Yelena, do your forces need support?", she asked through the screen.
"No thanks Eleanor, last harbinger here."
Eleanor released a big sigh of relief.
After hours of fighting so many harbingers, they could finally rest.
Moments later, a heavy thud echoed through the fields.
The last harbinger was down.
All forces retreated back to their ships.
They headed for a location that General Winston marked to survey.
When the engines finally stopped rumbling, they managed to set up camp and tour the abandoned city.
The three factions actually got along well.
They danced, they drank.
They sand, they drank.
They played, then drank.
Apparently, the Arnhem base was filled to the brim with liqour.
But beyond all of that, Franks and Boris saw something more precious.
"Finally! We finally got our hand on some supplies!"
"Well, to be fair, we really don't give away resources much."
And last of all, they laughed.
But in the corner of her eye, Eleanor saw a figure.
It seemed to be heading away from the celebrations and into the city.
She had time to spare, maybe it was worth approaching?
So she did.
She broke away from the camp and headed to where the figure was going.
But the figure was not stopping.
Atleast 45 minutes did she follow the silhoutte.
Then, it disappeared.
Eleanor slowly paced through the streets, checking every corner.
The narrative has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.
And there she saw it, as she turned a left corner into an alleyway, she saw the figure.
"Yelena? What in the bloody world are you doing here?"
But no response.
She was tucked into her arms, sitting on the side of the alley.
Slowly, her head turned to Eleanor.
"Yelena..?"
She saw tears on her face.
"Eleanor..."
"Are you okay?", she asked.
Yelena scoffed.
"A woman in this position crying is definitely okay Eleanor."
"Well, you don't have to make me feel guilty.", she said, rolling her eyes.
Yelena tapped the ground beside her twice.
"Uhm, okay?"
She sat down beside her.
"What happened, Yelena?", she wondered.
There was silence.
Suddenly, she swung her hands around Eleanor and hugged her tightly.
Without doubt was Eleanor shocked.
"Okay, you're gonna have to speak up young lady."
"Sorry, my mistake."
She lossened her hands and sat like before.
"So...?"
"Eleanor... I don't want to go home..."
Her eyebrow raised, "what do you mean Yelena?"
"Back home... I don't like it there..."
"You just repeated your words..."
A slight laugh could be heard amidst her crying.
But she was silent for a moment.
You see, Eurasia, out of the 6 major nations, was the most aggresive towards women.
The belief that men were better than women was more powerful there than in any other state.
In fact, disobeying your husband was considered a crime worthy of a life sentence.
Yelena had always been gloomy due to her past.
"Eleanor, do you have a mother and a father?"
She tilted her ehad in confusion.
"Yes, I do. They live in London."
A scoff pierced the silence.
"Lucky you then..."
She was bought back to that moment back home.
I think I was only 10 by then.
My parents were in an argument, thankfully, my father wasn't violent like the others.
I laid in my bed that day, I was just staring at the ceiling for what I remember.
So, I slept instead.
The next day, I woke up to the sounds of vehicles passing by, possibly the military again
It was actually common they drive those things around for nothing but to show off.
Mother was cooking something.
I knew because that savory, sweet smell had drifted down to my room.
So I got up and headed outside, it was the weekend so there was no school session.
"Eat up you two!", my mother called.
That voice haunts me to date.
"Wait a second, so you did have parents!", Eleanor said.
"Well, yea. But stop rushing!", she exclaimed as she elbow tapped Eleanor.
"Okay, okay. Continue."
My mother was a housewife like normal.
My father was a mechanic like usual.
But as we were about to finish eating, there was a knock on the door.
My father cane to check.
It was the secret police with a printed document.
"Mr. Ribenstov, you are suspected of hiding stolen equipment and a traitor."
He backed away from the door, yeah, I remember that.
"Uhh, sir. You might have been mistaken. You see-"
Those men pushed him aside and forced their way in.
Father tried to stop them but they had reached the kitchen where me and mother were.
"Citizen Anna Ribenstova, you have been accused of betrayal of the people."
The utensils she dropped, I think it was a cutting knife and a fork.
"What? I didn't do anything!"
I remember seeing the man grab mother's arm.
"Please come with us to the station."
But everyone knew that the accused was always punished.
So, while the man was trying to pull her to come with them, father got a chair I think and slammed it at one of the men.
After that, I got scared and ran back to my room.
There was a lot of thuds in the kitchen for a while.
Then, two loud bangs.
I heard the main door being opened, then closed.
I decided to go out... but then...
Eleanor noticed the look on Yelena.
"Okay, let's skip that part shall we?"
Yelena nodded in approval.
A few days passed and there was no more food left in the house so I was forced to leave.
I remember sitting at the front of a building, exhausted.
Then, a man came to me.
"What's a little girl doing out here alone? Where's your parents?"
"Gone."
His face looked terrified, I saw that.
He offered to take me home, and with no choice, I accepted.
I thought I had found a good man, a father figure, but no.
That man was General Makarov.
If I made a mistake, he would beat me badly with that meter long belt he had.
I wanted to know the length so I could dodge it but that didn't work.
Due to him, I got interested in the military and joined.
Legally, there was no wrong against it. The nation only required everyone to do their jobs.
But being the only woman in the military... it was harsh.
Due to my years there, I learned to detect movement in my sleep.
As a woman, you never knew what they'd do to you.
Somehow, I made it all through all types of abuse and got to be a captain.
"Uhh, Eleanor?"
Eleanor hugged her tightly.
Seeing her past, it was heartbreaking.
"Yelena, trust me. You're not going back to that place."
Within moments, they both burst into tears in the night.
I told you every belief about Eurasia always falls short.
Look a them two, hugging like sisters.
