Chapter 29 : RIVEN

  “Why are you here?”

“You know the reason very well, don’t you?”

I had to know what’s up with her. I needed answers. And that’s why, right now, I’m in her quarters. It’s diabolical, really — how she’s managed to maintain her professional mask till now.

A part of me applauds her for it. The other part wants to tear it off and make her speak.

  I shouldn’t be here. I know that.

She clears her throat, snapping me out of thought.

“Well, Mr. Riven, I don’t see any reason for you to be here, so please take your leave.”

  God. Damn. It.

I take a few steps toward her, but she doesn’t back off — being the stubborn shrink she is.

Reaching out for her hand, I give her enough time to pull away, but when she doesn’t, I take it in mine.

“Inez, please…” I notice her gaze going to my scars. Shit...

“Why?” Her voice sounds barely above a whisper. Broken. Because of me.

“Not every scar I leave is on someone else, darling.”

I intertwine our fingers. “I would rather you kill people instead of taking it out on yourself. And why didn’t you?”

“My hands were bounded. “She scoffs. “Don’t give me that shit. I know you well enough to know that you don’t give a damn about those.”

Shit...shrink caught me. Letting out a sigh I reply “I...i just didn’t want to kill...” Dammit I sound so weak. “You wanted to be a fucking saint or what?” her voice rises with each word and wait...her eyes...no...not because of me...

A case of literary theft: this tale is not rightfully on Amazon; if you see it, report the violation.

“ You’re so fucking dumb I thought you cared for yourself enough I thought you were getting better. I thought that...never mind because anyways it was just an assumption which turned out be wrong, right Mr. Riven?” She jerks her hand away from leaving mine hanging in the air.

“So what? Would you prefer I kill the entire staff?”

“YES! Listen I don’t care if you do that why can’t you understand huh? I couldn’t care less if you put the hospital on fire but this...this is unbearable to me Riven. Just get out of here.”

My fists clench at my sides as I look away unable to meet her gaze. “All you have been doing since the moment I stepped in here is push me away. That’s all you’ve been doing. If you care for me that much then why? Tell me Inez why?”

“Who said I cared for you?”

I freeze at her words my mind temporarily in shock. What? She’s lying, yes, she is because I don’t know what I will do with myself if she isn’t. If she doesn’t care, then what was all of that huh? Consoling me when I fell apart, talking to my dad because I was too much of a coward to? Fuck, I need her...She can’t just say those words…

  not this coldly.
