CHP 148: GHOST CITY

Mountain Cave Of The Red World

Hundreds of miles away from the mountain cave, in the shadow choked forest, space warped and twisted violently, as if a great invisible force was trying to tear open the void.

  A moment later— Phrrooooooooom.

A circular motion of black light began forming in the forest, the next moment, a figure stepped out of the portal.

It was a Young Girl in Black Robe.

She would have looked normal, just like other girls her age, but the strange, jagged inscriptions crawling across her skin spoke otherwise.

It was neither tattooed, nor carved, but glued onto her skin like dead paper talismans, yet pulsing as though alive.

She turned back, her void-like pitch-black eyes staring at the portal as it closed.

Even as the black portal completely vanished, she stood still, staring.

Moments later, she blinked, and the black in her eyes was gone, as if it was never there.

The jagged inscriptions on her skin also retracted into her skin until she looked completely normal. A fair skinned young girl.

She closed her eyes as she raised her head, and took a slow, deep breath as if savouring the smell of the air.

"Are you alive?" Her small, almost childish voice rang out.

She asked no one in particular, but her mind flashed back to her last memory before she stepped out of the portal.

  ★FLASHBACK ★

On the platform, Jin Yu looked at the girl who lay on the bridge listlessly as if she had given up on life.

  He raised an eyebrow.

"No trap?, Good, Move your ass bitch, who knows what's killing you on the other end"

A barrier of Qi appeared around the girl, shielding her from the unforgiving fire.

She pushed herself to her feet, and stared at the distant door for a moment, before moving forward, and without looking back, she muttered.

"We will meet again and I will take my revenge"

Jin Yu remain unmoved, but he replied.

"Then you need to survive "

"I will" she muttered, not as a reply, but a vow, to herself.

  ★FLASHBACK END★

Without another word, she went deep into the forest, a black color clouding her eyes before vanishing again.

  ----------

  CITY OF VLED.

Jin Yu closed in on a dome shaped cave in the forest, a white sword made entirely of Qi brimming in his hand, glowing with violent and destructive energy.

The closer he got to the cavern, the brighter the sword's glow, as if it were mustering every power it could.

Hei'an emotions was growing scary by the second, but Jin Yu remained unfazed, his sight remain fixed on the cavern now twenty meters from him.

He raised the sword high, every ounce of strength poured into it, as though uncertain whether the blade alone could carve the ruin he intended.

“Bastard,” Hei’an spat, his voice thick with venom as his hand clawed at the air toward Jin Yu.

The space where Jin Yu had stood twisted, shrieking as it split apart.

  Scraaaa—BOOOOOM!

A wave of void energy burst outward, tearing through the air and sending tremors racing in every direction. Yet when the chaos cleared, Jin Yu was already five paces ahead, his figure untouched while destruction churned behind him.

  Another snarl, another grasp.

  Scraaa—BOOOOOM!

Again, the world split open, again the explosion raged, but Jin Yu slipped forward, each strike landing just after he’d passed, as if the void itself hesitated to harm him.

A smile touched his lips, cold and almost playful. The sword in his grip gleamed, casting a cruel light across his face, as though mocking the one who chased.

"In case you’ve forgotten," he said, voice steady with taunt, "I’m still a Nascent Soul cultivator. Yet here you are, eating the dust at my heels. Doesn’t that shame you?"

Hei'an remained quiet but his eyes had darkened as he watched Jin Yu blur forward again and again without pause, but it wasn't just rage anymore, something else laced it now: shock, disbelief, and beneath that, a slow, smoldering greed.

The fury that had once brimmed inside him regressed, the desire to kill Jin Yu gave way to something more dangerous.

'The technique that let a Nascent Realm cultivator leave a Deity stumbling in his wake..... Could never be of mortal origin,

It can only be a Divine technique!'.

His heart shuddered in shock, then brimmed with even more hunger.

  Overwhelming thirst.

Whoever owns a peak-grade technique could already be considered a master, what more of a divine-grade?.

Had this brat been a Deity Realm cultivator like him, he himself would not even be able to chase the dust of his heels talkless of eating it.

'You can't die, I'll strip it from you, No Matter What!'

He thought and reached out again, but it wasn't to kill this time, rather, to confine.

Space folded where Jin Yu’s foot had just fallen. But it was late, always a step too late, as if the world itself favored his escape.

  Jin Yu's sword finally landed.

  BAAAAANG! BOOOOOOOOOM!

The strike detonated, raw force spilling outward like a flood. Stone shattered, air roared, the cavern walls dissolved into dust, collapsing in on themselves.

From the depths beneath, a guttural bellow rose

  GRRRRRRRRRROOOOWWWLLLLL!

The sound tore through the ruins like a beast waking in fury, its vibrations rolling across the broken ground, shaking it as though the earth itself recoiled.

  DING!

  Then –

Groowwl! Grooowl! Grooowl! Grooowl! Grooowl! Grooowl! Grooowl! Grooowl!

More growls followed, reverberating throughout the forest, as if a receiving a command.

Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding! .

  (Emotion provoked: Killing Intent)

Jin Yu's was already miles away, his heart trembling in both excitement and

Hei'an followed closely behind, though he was alarmed, and he absolutely felt like easing the chaos, he didn't stop, his greed wouldn't allow him, he was hellbent on getting his hand on the technique. He had even forgot about the token at this point.

"Useless struggle!, you'll run out of Qi eventually, then I'll dissect you and extract every single thing i want in you"

Jin Yu only smiled. "We'll see".

A sharp divert to the left.

His eyes locked on the waterfall ahead.

Another sword of qi appeared in his hand.

  ScraaaAAAAAA.

Hei'an made to confine him again but only grabbed empty air.

  Again and again.

Jin Yu was always a step ahead.

He then stopped trying and only chased, waiting for Jin Yu to run out of energy.

  BAAAAANG! CrAAAAASSSHHH!

The sword collided with the waterfall, the mountain behind it shattered into splinters. Water exploded out like a broken dam.

  GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRAAAA!

A sharp grating sound echoed throughout the forest, alongside the unceasing growl of the first clan of beasts.

Jin Yu didn't stop, neither Hei'an. They went deeper into the forest.

  A moment later.

  SPLAAAAAASH!

Torrent of water exploded outwards from the fall behind,

  Then– HIIIIIIIIIIIISHHHHHHHH.

Three giant heads on a single neck whipped up, hissing in a venomous manner.

Killing Intent crashed into the surrounding, snuffing out every life in miles like wind to flame.

  DING! DING! DIG!

  (Emotion provoked: Slaughtering Will.)

Hearing the hissing sound, the hair on Jin Yu's body rose up while goosebumps laced his whole body. He almost shivered from the chill in his spine.

  Fuckin crawlies!

He cursed and ran faster, unwilling to stay any closer.

After leaving the area, he didn't stop. He only got more daring.

Both low and high level beasts weren't exempted from his provocation.

  BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG!

Throughout the forest, explosions rang out continuously, followed by angry growls and waves of killing Intent.

In matter of minutes, the forest had descended into chaos, a killing spree began, the strong preying on the weak, leading to an even more chaos, beasts got displaced and ran amok, uncoordinated.

Thud thud thud thud thud thud thud.

The ground trembled from disorganized steps of various kinds.

A massive shadow covered the land as different species of birds chirped loudly and flew away in thousands, escaping the impending doom.

Beasts came rushing over to the city like a tide of ants.

The city not far away soon felt the chaos.

The ground vibrated, massive bells tolled unceasingly, alarms blared, inspection talismans flickered incessantly, surveillance orbs flared red,

Warnings should have been resounding from the wardens, shouts of panic should have been heard, the gate should have been shut close while the security was raised to the maximum, but what was happening was far from all that.

  Silence.

  Pin drop silence.

Save for the tolling bells and vibrations that echoed throughout the ghost-like city.

No single shout of caution or panic was heard, even the gate was left ajar.

  Gone.

The bustling city full of life, the bustling crowd full of fights and banters,

was gone in the blink of an eye.

  Not a single person.

  Not a single Soul

was left in the city, as though they vanished in mere seconds.
