The spiders assault

“KSSSKRIEEEE”
I turn my head, only to immediately regret it as I saw a giant spider, its body thick covered in coarse black-violet bristles that give it a menacing appearance. Its legs are long, bent like hooked spears, gripping the branch with absolute control. Each movement feels deliberate, as if the spider is always calculating its next strike.
The mouth is slightly open, revealing jagged mandibles made for tearing rather than merely biting.
From its fangs, viscous violet venom drips slowly on top of a branch suggesting a poison both lethal and cruel.
But what draws the most are its glowing red eyes filled with unmistakable malice.
He is not alone, as two slightly smaller but muscular spiders are behind her and there is a small army of offspring mirroring its dark colors and crimson gaze.
They are surrounding us with a voracious gaze, prepared to jump at us the second we move.
Shit, I think we entered their territory.
The group immediately enter a defending stance trying to scare them away, the adults are on the edge while the young are in the center.
The situation doesn't look good, We have only five rank 1 with only the leader being at the peak of rank 1, the rest are too weak and fraighted to be of particular help.
The enemy has only two rank 1 spiders but the spider's queen power is rank 2 and the only one who can stop her is the leader but he dont have the power to kill her.
The biggest problem is the swarm hidden in the shadows. They can catch us by surprise and overwhelm us with sheer numbers.
This will be a hard fight.
The spiders don't waste a second and they immediately launch to attack, the only thing they can do is send four of them to stop the Queen and his two subordinates, while the last one protects the rest.
For a while it works, but the spider numbers are too much for one person to stop, causing all the newborn lizards to flee in terror.

I also joined the escape because my strength is roughly the same as them, luckily the color of my skin helped me hide in the hollow trunks of a tree far away from the battle.
The scene around me is hell, the spiders are chasing them, and if they succeed they suffer a painful death by being eaten alive.
Meanwhile the fight on the other side isn't going much better, even though they were able to kill one of the subordinate spiders. Unfortunately they appear stuck in some kind of web limiting their movement and two of them appear paralyzed by some kind of poison.
Even the one tasked to kill the small spider and protect the children isn't in good shape. The long combat caused him to lose most of his stamina but if he stops now they may decide to attack.
The only reason they still haven't lost is because the old lizard is fighting better than I thought.
He has a sturdy build able to resist the spider attack, the poison doesn't seem to have much effect on him either.
The biggest problem is the insufficient attack power, the only attack it can do damage is his claw, but they are unable to deliver a fatal blow.
This causes a temporary stalemate between the two sides but it probably won't last long.
I can't stay hidden and do nothing, if the pack is wiped out then I will have to survive alone in the forest which is no different than a death sentence.
I am a powerless lizard, by normal common sense I should be unable to help at all.
But there is still a part of my system I haven't seen yet.

The legend says when Yggdrasil was born, he created ancient letters known as runes, and with the help of the runes he was able to create everything that exists in the world.
Many people have speculated that by translating the meaning of the runes, we would be able to use their power.
That's the theory of how the rune skills were created.
They represent the ability a living being can use and they vary exponentially between different individuals.
After millenium of studies, they decide to classify the rune in three special categories.
The innate rune skills: a skill received only at birth or innate to a race.
The basic rune skills: a skill everyone can learn if they meet the conditions.
The first two categories are the most common; the innate skill while powerful, you can normally have only rune one except rare gifted individuals or special races; the basic skill in the meantime are the opposite, as long as you meet the conditions you can learn the skill but it is almost always weaker than an innate skill.
The only skill more powerful than an innate rune are the unique skills.
Unique rune skills: They represent a rune which exists in only one copy in the entire universe.
That means not only is it a skill only you have but it is also way more powerful than a regular one.
The best part is almost nobody knows they exist, in fact the reason I have this information is from an ancient book I read in the library.
