The city of love.

Several hours passed before Kai finally woke up, still resting on Lyla's lap.

"How much time has gone by?" Kai asked as he sat up.

"A long time, about two hours".

"Damn, I’ve really been out for a while..." Kai stood up completely, although his legs were still trembling slightly.

  [ SYSTEM MESSAGE ]

You have 2 points to distribute among your statistics.

"That's right, I leveled up before passing out". Kai opened the statistics menu.

  STATS

  Strength: 10

  Speed: 12

  Endurance: 10

  Intelligence: 15

  Mana: 100/100

  Perception: 20

"I have two points to spend. What should I increase?" Kai asked Lyla, who had also stood up.

Lyla thought for a few seconds before answering. "You should increase Perception and Intelligence," Lyla replied as she approached him again. "Because the better your Perception and Intelligence are, the less mana you will waste since you will have greater control over it. Leave Strength and those things for later".

"Makes sense. I'll increase those then".

  STATS

  Strength: 10

  Speed: 12

  Endurance: 10

  Intelligence: 16

  Mana: 100/100

  Perception: 21

"Done," Kai stated with a small, proud smile. "Now what?"

Lyla grabbed Kai’s arm again before replying. "Let's leave this forest and head to my kingdom. We are very close now." Both began to walk again. "I will also explain what you asked before you fainted about healing magic".

Kai hesitated for a few seconds but then remembered the question. "Oh, that’s true. You didn't tell me there was healing magic in this world".

"It exists, but it’s special. Some religions consider it a sin for people to use healing magic, and it is forbidden". "For example, the religion of the god Athel, 'The Pure Filter,' believes that the only one who can heal is Athel and those chosen by him, along with the healing potions sold at the temples".

"So they turned healing into a business," Kai interrupted.

"You could say that. Consequently, since healing magic is prohibited within their territory, adventurer groups cannot have a healer unless they pay a temple to provide one, or buy healing potions like I told you".

Unauthorized usage: this narrative is on Amazon without the author's consent. Report any sightings.

They both continued walking until they finally exited the forest. "The other religions that ban healing are those of the gods Malk and Nox, the religions of 'The Return' and 'The Mirage'". "And even though the gods know it’s nonsense, they don't intervene because they find it amusing".

  "Bastards".

Finally, both arrived at the entrance of Athelgard. "Well, that doesn't matter right now. What’s important is to register you as an adventurer".

The city was surprisingly large. Although the technology was nowhere near Japan's, Kai was impressed by the beautiful architecture. "Wow... your kingdom is wonderful".

Lyla nodded with a wide smile as she guided him through the crowded streets. "And everyone here is respectful and kind, the perfect place for us to stay".

"Yes, you can tell it’s a very quiet place. Honestly, I’d like to live here," Kai said softly, still appreciating the clean and well-structured streets. They continued walking through the large crowds until an adventurer's guild sign appeared in the distance.

"By the way... you said that during my exam at the guild, they would give me my current rank and my potential. What will happen? Will they see that I have enormous potential?"

Lyla didn't stop and kept walking calmly. "No. Since you have the System, it limits your mana reading. Since you currently have little mana, your potential rank will appear very low, so they won't suspect anything," Lyla whispered, trying to ensure no one heard them.

  "Ohhh, I see. Perfect then".

Finally, they reached the adventurer's guild. They entered, and at the reception, a young elf with brown hair attended to them. "Welcome to the adventurer's guild. How can I help you?" she asked with a kind smile.

"Wo". Lyla elbowed Kai in the stomach.

"Hello, we came to take the rank test." Lyla hugged Kai’s arm tighter. "We’re going together".

Dilya was surprised by the elbow but acted normally. "Of course. What are your names?"

"I'm Kai," he replied, still feeling the pain in his stomach.

"I'm Lyla. We've known each other since we were children," she said with a fake smile.

"Oh, you have the same name as the goddess. What a beautiful name." Dilya cleared her throat slightly. "Well, I am Dilya, and I will be the one testing you. First, what are you, mages or fighters?"

"I am bo" Lyla interrupted Kai quickly. "He is a mage, just like me".

"Fine, then please place your hand on the sphere." Dilya pointed to her left.

Kai stepped forward first and placed his hand on the sphere . it began to glow, but very softly, indicating Kai's low mana. Then the sphere began to burn slightly fire within it showing that Kai had an affinity for fire.

"Perfect. Next, please." Dilya took notes.

Lyla placed her hand on the sphere. It glowed a bit more than during Kai's attempt, showing she still retained some of her power. Then, the sphere began to release a gentle breeze, indicating Lyla's affinity for air.

"Perfect. Now go to the physical exam area, it’s past those wooden tables to the left".

  "Thank you very much".

While they were heading to the designated area, Kai leaned toward Lyla. "Hey, why were we marked with one element if we can use them all?"

Lyla turned toward him. "Because even though we can use all of them and learn them easily, everyone always has one element they are most aligned with. You with fire, me with air".

"Ohh, I see." Both kept walking until Kai stopped for a moment before entering the room. "And don't hit me again. That elbow hurt".

Lyla was silent for a few moments. "We'll see," she replied before finally entering the room.

"Hey, not 'we'll see'! It hurts!" Kai followed Lyla.

After a disastrous exam on Kai's part but a perfect one on Lyla's, both obtained their adventurer documents and their ranks.

"Perfect, here you go." Dilya smiled as she handed over the documents.

"I'm Rank F with E potential. I expected a bit more," Kai sighed, pretending.

"I'm Rank D with C potential. Not bad." Lyla smiled happily as she put the document away.

"By the way, Dilya, do you have any commissions we could do now? To earn some money".

"Oh sure, we have this low rank one. It’s for gathering flowers for the Day of Love, it’s coming up soon and they will be needed for the festival". "Usually, many grow in the forest each year. Since we take good care of it, we always gather some for that day".

"Sounds good," Lyla said excitedly. "That commission works for us".

"Perfect, then good luck." Dilya waved them off with a smile, giving each of them a basket.

They both left the guild and returned to the forest where they had been earlier.

"Hey, Lyla, I've had this question since we entered the kingdom but I didn't want to ask. If you are the goddess of the religion, why didn't they recognize you?"

Lyla tucked the flower she was holding into the basket. "Well, that’s a good question, honey." Lyla continued picking flowers. "It's because I never manifested in physical form, I always did it through subordinates or without being seen. So, people don't know it's me".

"So we really are going unnoticed. I like that".

Lyla and Kai spent several hours gathering flowers for the festival. But suddenly, screams were heard from among the great trees of the forest.

"Help! Help! My wife is dying!"
