Chapter 5 — The Bond That Cannot Be Surpassed

  Lumis once believed that

shared existence was something arising from choice.

  Being together.

  Staying near.

Sharing Static Flow in the same rhythm.

All of that should arise from willingness.

  At least…

that was what she used to understand.

  But recently,

  that understanding began to waver.

Not because Arthian did anything wrong.

  On the contrary,

  he remained steady.

Still faithful to the covenant they had laid.

  The wavering arose from herself.

Every time she tried to withdraw from the Static zone—

  not to flee,

  not to refuse,

  merely to "be alone"—

her Static form would experience strange sluggishness.

  Not pain.

  But resistance—

as though the Static Flow around her grew denser,

as though the domain did not want her to go farther.

  The first time,

she thought it was merely fatigue.

  The second time,

she thought it was an imbalance of Static.

But when it happened again and again,

every time she tried to distance herself from Arthian,

  even slightly,

  Lumis began to know

  it was not coincidence.

  She did not feel "longing."

The narrative has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the infringement.

  Did not feel "concern."

  What occurred

was the feeling that if she stepped farther,

  something within her would "snap."

  Not the relationship.

  But existence.

  When Kronosvar appeared,

  that feeling would lighten.

  Not disappear,

but as though covered by a stiller rhythm.

  She never questioned this.

Because it made her "breathe more easily."

  When Kronosvar was near,

the tension in her mind would ease.

The sluggishness that pulled at her would soften.

  She did not know why,

but her Static form became "calmer" than before.

  And that calm

made her unwilling to look deeper.

Lumis began rearranging her Static life.

  Not by severing,

  but by avoiding.

Avoiding being alone with Arthian too long.

Avoiding moments where she had to face his stillness.

  Not because he was frightening,

  but because when near him,

she would feel a certain "weight" in her chest—

  like something embedded,

  unmoving,

  silent,

  but reminding her

that she was not as free as she thought.

  One night,

  Lumis woke from Static state.

  She had not dreamed.

But there was an intrusive image.

  An image of fine threads

  extending from her chest,

  stretching across emptiness

  to an unseen point.

She did not know what it was.

But merely trying to "shift" that thread,

the sluggish feeling surged up immediately.

  Lumis startled.

  Returned to waking state.

  Her chest was heavy.

Static Flow did not course evenly.

She tried to adjust the balance herself.

  But the more she tried,

  the clearer the sluggishness became—

  as though some system

would not allow her to fix it.

  The next day,

she did not tell Arthian about this.

Not because she didn't trust him,

but because she didn't want to see his expression

  if she said,

"I cannot go anywhere of my own will."

  Instead,

she chose to go to Kronosvar.

  Not to seek answers,

but to be near the stillness that let her not have to think.

  Kronosvar listened

  without asking for details.

  He did not offer explanation.

  Did not offer solutions.

  Simply said,

"Some covenants… are not bound by intention."

  He paused briefly.

"But are bound by Veracity too deep to realize."

  Those words

  did not help her understand.

  But helped her "accept."

Accept that there might be something

  within her

  that was not hers alone.

Lumis returned to the Static domain that night

  and found Arthian still waiting.

  He did not ask.

  Did not stare.

  Simply remained there.

  Steady as always.

  And that

was what made her most uncomfortable.

  Not because he bound her,

  but because he "never demanded."

  She did not know

what force pulled and held her.

Did not know if it was covenant

  or something embedded deeper.

  She only knew that

if one day she truly left,

it would not just be a step forward.

  It would be

  tearing something from herself.

And she was not at all certain

whether she was ready to pay that price.

Lumis lay down in her Static zone.

Only a few steps from Arthian.

  But in her heart,

it felt like being on opposite sides of the Static Great Universe.

  She closed her eyes.

  Tried to let existence settle.

  But in her chest,

  something still trembled.

  Not stopping.

  Not fading.

As though there were a whisper

  no one could hear.

"You are no longer your own."

In the shadow of the Static domain,

  the invisible threads

  remained taut.

They did not arise from love.

  Did not arise from choice.

  They arose from the giving.

  The giving Arthian had done

without knowing what he was giving.

  And when what was given

  became part of another,

  pulling it back

  was not simple.

  It required fracture.

  Lumis lay in the darkness.

Listening to the sound of Static Flow coursing through the domain.

  She thought of Arthian.

  Thought of Kronosvar.

Thought of herself being pulled in two directions.

But one thing she did not think of

was the question that should be asked most.

  "Why can I not leave?"

  Not because she didn't wonder,

but because she feared the answer.

In the shadow of the Static domain,

  the invisible threads

  remained taut.

Waiting for the day when someone

would pull them with enough force.

  And when that day came,

  everything that appeared stable

  would collapse all at once.

  Because threads embedded deep,

  when pulled out,

would not only destroy the connection.

They would destroy the one who was bound.

  Until only fragments remained.
