Chapter 7. System Restrictions.

Emilio internalized himself on what each Stat was. There were three details he was especially curious about. The fact that they could live longer with higher Vitality; that Tuor talked about a soul, something that science had not confirmed it exists; and that the World Energy should have appeared on Earth the moment the integration started.

“Is that the heaviness I’ve been feeling in the air? The World Energy?” Emilio asked. “It also makes sense why everyone I talked to had only one in that Stat. If there was no Energy on Earth, how would they rise their Stat,”

“Yeah, that makes sense, no one should have more than one in the Energy Stat on a planet without World Energy. It is also good that you can feel it, that means you have some talent in the Energy Stat.”

Emilio smiled when he heard what Tuor said. If it was really like that, he might be talented in at least two out of the four Stats. After all, he had already raised his Vitality by quite a lot. As he thought about that Stat, he decided to ask about something else Tuor had explained. “On another subject, you are telling me we can live more than 80 or 90 years?”

“Of course, as long as you raise your Vitality. Given the technology you told me you have, you should have quite a good estimate of what a low vitality lifespan is for your planet. Your perspective of 80 to 90 years should be the normal maximum for 2 or 3 Stat points in Vitality, which is quite standard around humanoid species.

“If we guide ourselves by the standard, your lifespan at the peak of Rank 1 should be around 200 years. What is your Vitality right now? If you don’t mind me asking.”

“Wait 200? Are we going to live 200 years?” Emilio was beyond shocked. That estimate was more than doubling the time he could live, even if he considered the best case scenario. “Also, what is this Rank 1 you talk about? And why would I mind telling you my Vitality? It is 6, by the way.”

“It is usually taboo to ask another person Stats or Skills, but given that I am guiding you, I thought it might be ok to ask,” Tuor answered. “Right now you should have a lifespan of 140 years, and much more resilience to illnesses because of your Vitality.”

Emilio heard what Tuor explained, but couldn’t believe he had just lived a fourth of his life, or maybe even less. The perspectives on his life were completely different with that in mind, he could even be considered to have just started his life. As he internalized himself with this new perspective of life, Tuor continued with his explanations.

“As for the Ranks, it is a way to progress after raising your Stats to the maximum of 10. It is also considered a breakthrough in your whole being. Right now you are Rank 1. After one of your Stats reaches 10 points, you have to breakthrough to the next rank to be able progress in that Stat. For more information about Ranking Up you will need to buy the details. One thing I can tell you as a bonus for your tip is that I recommend you don’t Rank Up unless you have 10 Points in all of your Stats.”

Unlawfully taken from Royal Road, this story should be reported if seen on Amazon.

At that point, Emilio was completely sure that the tips were well invested money. He wasn’t sure he was going to get even half of the information he got if he didn’t tip the man. This was information that was not available anywhere else, so he considered it was money well spent.

“There are a few more things to mention.” Tuor continued, “One of them is the Free Stat points. These points are a way for the System to help you understand what you have to do to raise a Stat. You won’t be able to improve any of your Stats again until you use your free Stats, with the exception of cases where the System considers multiple upgrades as part of the same event.

“Usually, this is the only way to automatically raise a Stat unless you have a System Event like this Trial. In Rank 1, you will have one extra Free Stat per point you upgrade by yourself, but they will be less in higher Ranks. After all, they are meant to be a help from the System for you to understand what to do. The best thing you can do right now is to try to understand how to upgrade them by yourself.”

“Usually, the most productive way to use them is for the Stats with the higher points. The higher a Stat is, the harder it is to raise it. It is also recommended to use them in a Stat you don’t know how to raise, but with the Starter Trials in place you don’t really need to do that.

“Also, in your case it is better if you try to avoid upgrading with free points any Stat that you have faith in upgrading several times in a row inside a Trial. The more trials in a row you pass, the more coins it gives and the lower your Stats are, the easier it will be to score better in the Trials.

“Now, I think I'm done with the information. What do you think?” Tuor finished his monologue.

“Everything makes a lot more sense now, thank you.” Emilio did a little bow. “Is it ok if I use my 4 Stat points to increase my Vitality to 10? I already did that Trial and it is going to be harder to pass it several times in a row again.”

“I am not allowed to directly advise you on the distribution, just think about what I said and you will know. On another subject, the air is a little dry here isn't it. I think i'm about to cough” Tuor answered with a wink.

The air was not dry at all, but Emilio understood what was going on with the man. He also understood that the System rules are not as harshly enforced.

“Ohh, yeah a cough might be in order. I think I will put them into Vitality then,” Emilio said and waited a few seconds and nothing happened.

“Or maybe I will put them into Energy as it is my lowest Stat.” Emilio continued testing the waters. At his comment Tuor had a few coughs.

“No, definitely into Vitality.” Once again Emilio changed his choice and once again there was no reaction on Tuor’s part. Emilio smiled as he had his response from the man. “Thank you.”

“You are a smart kid, it is good you understood,” Tuor commented.

“By the way, you said that the Coins I earned correspond to how I performed in the Trial. How was my result?” Emilio asked.

“You did quite well, but given the amount of people on your planet, you might not be the best. If you keep going at this rate in the other Stats you might become a real elite,” Tuor answered.

“Ok, that is good to know. I will upgrade my Stats now.”

Tuor nodded and waited for the trial taker to finish the upgrades.
