Chapter Three

  Another week has passed.

  The “training” I’ve had this last week wasn’t much compared to the week prior.

  But now, that all comes to an end.

  We’re on our way to the hero academy.

  Me, Marin, Loen, and Ms. Knight.

  I knew that the three of us would be going, but I was unaware that Ms. Knight would be coming too.

  It makes sense, though.

  There is still the possibility that I'm a demon. They’re just being cautious.

  There is also another good reason.

  Marin Silivius is the first princess, even though the academy is a place for royalty and nobility, she still needs to be protected just in case.

  Having two bodyguards is the norm. That’s Ms. Knight and me.

  Even though I'm the hero, I'm not nobility or royalty. I wouldn’t be allowed to step on campus.

  However, if I show up as a bodyguard for Princess Marin, I will be able to attend the school.

  But because of that, my status as a hero will be hidden.

  The announcement of the hero arriving to Vendae was never made.

  The only people who know I exist are the palace knights, maids, and some high-ranking nobility.

  If the demons heard of the hero being summoned and that he was at the hero academy, they would swarm the place.

  Even if I'm the hero, I'm not all-powerful.

  I’ll die for sure.

  And so will everyone else there.

  So for now, I'm no longer the hero.

  Demon, hero, bodyguard. They need to decide what my job is.

  Anyway, the journey so far has been quite peaceful.

  I'm inside the carriage with Princess Marin.

  I’ve noticed she doesn’t speak too much.

  She’ll give wild and animated expressions, but when it comes to speech, at most she’ll give one or two-word answers.

  She would come to my room after dinner from time to time, and we would end up talking, but it was usually just me talking to her and not getting much of a response.

  Maybe she just has issues talking to people?

  Ms. Knight is outside the carriage on horseback.

  I haven’t had much conversation with her either.

  I had no idea she was that strong.

  I'm not sure what OSMX means, but my OSMX skill is very strong.

  I'm absolutely sure that must be a trump card type ability.

  If I appraise a person, I’ll get to view their stats and skills.

  If I appraise a rock, I’ll get info on what kind of rock it is.

  That means appraisal works on more than living things.

  So what if I were to appraise someone, then appraise one of their skills?

  Quickly, I appraise

  

  First effect: will save you at one HP, and raise your strength to 3x the strongest person within a 50-meter radius.

  Second effect: when an ally within a 50-meter radius is on the brink of death, your strength will be 1.5x its current, and you will be drawn to them.

  Whoa, it worked!

  I'm able to double appraise things!

  That skill is really good.

  I was right to assume it was a trump card.

  Her stats are really high, she has a skill that is overpowered, and she is absolutely gorgeous.

  She has it all!

  The only way for her to be defeated would be to be more than three times as strong as yourself after she activates it?

  If you fight her and get her down to one HP, she will just become three times stronger than you.

  Perhaps you would have to kill her from a range?

  If there are people like her in this world, why did they need to summon me as a hero?

  Just send her to the demon king; if she gets to one HP, she automatically wins.

  I definitely need to make an ally of her.

  The angel said that the friends I would make would be predominantly female.

  I should try to appraise the OSMX.

  It's just telling me the abilities of again.

  So I can’t double-appraise everything then.

  I was really hoping it would tell me what it means.

  Oh, well. No point whining.

  Quickly, I get up and cover the window with its wooden covering.

  Immediately after, I hear a little thud.

  Due to the window being blocked, I can’t see what hit the window, but I'm sure it was an arrow.

  Using my echolocation, I noticed strange activity in the trees on the side of the path.

  A bandit covering his face and aiming his bow right at the head of Princess Marin.

  I wasn't sure this was going to happen, but it doesn’t surprise me that it did.

  Second Prince Loen Silivius left to head to the academy two days earlier than we did.

  During my two weeks at the palace, he had never attempted to hide his disdain for his younger sister and I.

  In every novel and anime, the second prince plots an assassination attempt on his sister.

  Why? Idk.

  Thats just how it is.

  Marin is giving me a look of confusion with a small amount of panic.

  “An arrow was fired at you.”

  She looks increasingly alarmed.

  It's fine, though.

  As long as Rei Ilios is here, there should be no issue.

  Even if shes pushed to death’s door, she’ll become three times stronger.

  Sigh, I should have asked for a power like that.

  I can hear the sounds of fighting outside.

  The clash of steel on steel, and the clash of steel on skin.

  And just as suddenly as it started, it ends.

  Knock, knock.

  I open the door to be greeted by Rei Ilios.

  She looks at Marin and moves her fist over her chest.

  “We have vanquished the attackers and will continue forward.”

  Well, that was fast. I'm not surprised, though.

  Rei leaves, and quickly we start moving again.

  It's obvious who did it.

  I wonder how he’ll react to us showing up completely fine?

  The time passes slowly on the way.

  But eventually we make it.

  As I step out of the carriage, I'm blinded by the light of the sun.

  When my eyes come back into focus, I can see the school.

  Giant is the best word to describe it.

  Five stories, many tall towers, two separate dorm buildings, and on the side is a garden as large as the school.

  This place is massive!

  And that's not all!

  Behind the school are the training grounds.

  On the other side of the garden is the library, which is three stories high.

  The entire forest surrounding the academy also belongs to the school.

  And high above is a small floating island over the forest.

  Things like this really do hit that I'm in another world.

  I would have never been able to see something like this Back in Japan.

  Now all that's left is to complete the entrance tests.

  I'm sure nothing at all will go wrong.
