It started to rain, and I was pretending to sit and relax, but I was keeping an eye on everyone. Giana was going around and chatting with everyone.
Something happened just as I started to think that everything was going well so far. Some asshole got greedy and put a large dent in our food supply. I guess it already has started, will the shady character show his face?
I knew who was responsible, but I couldn’t say for certain that the culprit was the mastermind. He could have manipulated this person to do this. Or this is unrelated to the person trying to mess with Giana.
I took another bite out of the banana I was eating and everyone focused on me.
“We found the culprit!” Several accusing stares fell upon me.
“Wait! Nobody who is right in his mind would put a dent in our supplies and openly eat them on deck!” Someone else said.
“Hmm, you have a point, maybe Silver Torrent brought his own food. He has a dimensional box, after all! Let's continue looking!”
Uhm I’m sorry guys but the culprit is indeed me, they should be more judgmental…
I tried to nonchalantly throw the banana peel over board, but my hand slipped because we got hit by a big wave and the peel dropped on the deck.
Uh, oh.
A crewmate carrying a barrel of cooking oil ran over it and slipped, causing the barrel to hit the floor and spread the oil over the deck. “Ouch!”
Some clown was showing off some fire magic, the oil made him slip, and he set the deck ablaze.
I took some meat out of the stash that I swiped, seasoned it, and dangled it in the blaze with some wires.
“Ahh! Fire!”
“I got this!” some guy said as he was about to throw water on the fire.
Oof water on an oil fire? I shielded my food and myself with a multi-layered barrier and the fire got worse and hotter. This is technically my fault, but nobody knows that.
The meat was well done and tasted quite great. I put the fire out and patted the guy who slipped over the banana peel, on his back.
They started to investigate how the fire started, but they couldn't find out how that guy slipped. It might be wise to stop eating bananas… The bananas got stored and I shifted to fried snacks.
They came to the conclusion that someone was out to sabotage us. The guy who told me to keep an eye on Giana convinced everyone that there must be someone who is causing fires and stealing food. They speculated that assassination was next. Or the possibility that the ship might sink before we arrive.
“What is your view on this Silver Torrent?” A sailor asked.
“Look how calm he is! Truly a seasoned adventurer.” An adventurer remarked.
Were the comments that got flung at me. These guys surely are hyping me up, I’m calm because I caused half of their problems, I can't tell them that though...
I’m keeping an eye out for the situation; I will make sure nobody important gets assassinated, and the boat stays afloat.
A sailor cocked his head. “Somebody important? That’s oddly specific.”
I gestured at the 2 idiots.
“Ah yeah, I guess you won’t bother saving them, I guess that makes sense. After what they did, I doubt that anyone would risk their lives to save them.”
“Yeah, I can imagine that you're skilled in killing opponents physically, but who would have expected you to also be skilled in killing them socially!” One of the men gave me a slap on the back which made me fly forward. “Huh, interesting, you seem quite light, is that why you’re eating so much?”
Uhh, yeah, let's go with that one.
“Hmm interesting, Giana is also extremely light, are you perhaps…”
Perhaps a super rare, almost extinct race that can drop countries into chaos at will? What do you think?
“Yeh, probably not, make sure you eat enough!” He wanted to slap my back again, but reconsidered, just gave a pat on my shoulder and walked away.
Nothing strange going on under the surface of the ocean after a quick inspection. Besides… A pod of orcas appeared.
I jumped in the water and played with the orcas.
“Man overboard!” Some people reacted but noticed it was a false alarm.
I’m going to fish with these guys for a bit! I’ll be right back!
I dove with the orcas and they located a school of fish faster than I could. We had a decent catch when some went for some squids. I tried to keep up but in my human form and without using special skills it was impossible to keep up, but the orcas were kind and gave me a lift.
We fought a relatively big squid, I immobilized it with frost magic and aided the orcas to victory. They located a school of salmon when I decided to head back up. Nothing seemed special about this one, but the orcas were excited and so was I. We were having quite some fun when I felt Giana’s gaze.
That meant that it was time to head back up. I thanked the orcas and ascended, pretending to not know exactly where the ship was as that would be super suspicious. I surfaced and saw the guy that almost burnt the ship down waving a flare to draw attention. I dove again and appeared near the ship and launched myself on deck with my haul.
“Whoa! Are you an orca too?! How did you catch that many?!” Flare guy asked.
Here, have a squid.
I threw a squid at one of the guys, he failed to catch it and the squid attached to his face.
“Ooh, what a lovely catch. Are we going to eat it now?”Giana asked as she watched how I dumped my catch on the deck.
Of course!
Giana and I seemed to be quite excited about the fish, but the others didn't share the enthusiasm.
“Well, we don’t have a kitchen here, so preparing fresh fish will be… problematic.” A sailor said as he looked at the catch. He seemed so upset that he couldn’t enjoy some fish that he almost looked heartbroken. Poor dude.
Kitchens are overrated!
I abused my mana control to filter ocean water so it was only salt water and formed them into salty ice blades.
Alright guys, back off, I’ll show you peak water magic!
I swiftly gutted and cleaned the fish, cut it into pieces and deboned them with just some frozen blades made out of seawater and some hands made out of cold water. I faked taking supplies out of my dimensional box and started to cook whatever fish dish I could come up with.
Yo, flare guy!
The guy who almost burnt the ship down pointed at himself.
Yeah you, come fry this fish.
I had made tables out of frost and even a stove and a pan.
“Uhhm these will melt…”
I told you I would show you peak water magic, right? Just go and fry it and don't ruin this good fish else ill kick you overboard!
Giana helped in frying some fish and squid. It wasn't much, but it was a feast made out of fish and squid.
“What the fuck, I’ve never seen someone use water like this before…” Some fishermen commented. Imagine being a fisherman and being unable to do this…
Stop gawking, the food is ready, eat up!
We tried to eat but the seesawing of the ship made it quite impossible to keep stuff on the table, so we held our plates while we ate.
“We are so lucky that you 2 were on this ship!” The fish loving sailor said with heartfelt gratitude. He might love fish as much as I do.
The 2 idiots were in a bad mood, but at least they were enjoying the fish.
“Thank you for the meal, Silver Torrent, I'll bring some to the captain and the crew that's hard at work.” 2 men and 2 women stood up, got some food, and handed them out to those that were keeping the boat functioning.
“Hey Agnis, I talked to most of the people on the ship and I think these 3 are suspicious.” Giana kept it discreet and pointed her fork toward the 3 she found suspicious.
Oh, you did some digging by yourself, thank you, I will pay extra attention to them.
I kept getting harassed and asked about how I made ‘Nevermelt ice’. I just told them to ‘git gud’. They requested a song from Giana that would help with digestion.
The ocean was getting to a point where we, the passengers, on deck couldn't ignore how much the waves made the ship rock. Well, it wasn't rocking anymore, it felt more like we were falling and then pushed up and fell again. Giana and I had to be careful now to not get launched off the ship.
Ugh, I forgot about this, what a pain in the ass.
I complained while tightly holding on to the railing.
“Haha! Are you afraid? Or seasick? I guess even A-rank adventurers have weaknesses! Hahaha.” A sailor said while laughing loudly.
One of the suspicious guys reacted at the mention of a possible weakness.
“Hey, our lovely idol seems to have the same problem!” a fisherman remarked.
Giana seemed quite uncomfortable and was also holding on to the mast.
“Hey, want me to hold your hand?” A young ‘Tournament Winner’ asked. He probably isn’t a fisherman, as most of the younger ‘winners’ can barely use water magic.
Giana shook her head while tightening her grip around the mast. “No, thank you, this mast will do.”
They left her alone, but 4 jerks were poking fun of me and trying to get me to let go of the rails.
I know this is funny for you guys, but I would advise you to mind your own business!
It took a lot of effort to make sure my legs didn't get sent flying. I would have to give it to the captain, we were going up and down, but besides that, the ship was quite stable. The other people didn't need to hold on to things much, only when we would hit the lowest point. I looked at the other ship in the distance. They were having a bit more difficulties with these waves. I guess we got the better captain. I should have made something extra special for the captain.
The wind started slowly changing direction and was blowing perpendicular to our ship. The captain tried to adjust to this but made slow progress. The ship was quite stable despite this. I’m wondering if he’s using magic. Either he is extremely skilled or has some useful magic going. I checked him out in curiosity. He seemed to be using magic to read the wind and the waves, but that's it. He was doing everything else based on his experience.
Someone got me off the rails because I was distracted, and the next wave sent me flying.
This book's true home is on another platform. Check it out there for the real experience.
“Whoa! I didn't expect this to happen!”
“Truly impressive!”
Assholes!
I started contemplating my life’s choices while flying upward. I should have put effort into learning gravity magic. This situation is bullshit. I oriented myself, connected to the windy leyline energy and used [Dragonvein: Pressure] and landed on the deck.
“Uhh, are you ok?” An asshole asked, regretting his actions.
I gave the assholes a glare while [Dragonvein: Pressure] was pushing down on me.
“Uhm, we’re sorry.”
The guy that had the funny idea that I might be a 9t and approached me. “So uhm, you made a point that it’s hard to find legendary creatures but ehm.” He looked at Giana who couldn't hide any longer that she was also struggling to not get sent flying as I did.
“Care to explain these similarities? You two don’t look like each other, but a lot of similar traits seem to suggest that you could pass for family members or at least grew up together.”
I gave up on using [Dragonvein: Pressure] and grabbed onto the railing.
Are you a detective or something?
“I studied behavioral arts and psychology.”
Great… exactly what I needed. Let's suppose I am, what will you do with the information?
Mr. Analyst said something, but thunder cracked, and I didn't hear what he said.
I see…
“I know that you didn't hear a word I said! The thunder was too loud!”
Note to self, avoid psychologists.
“This has nothing to do with me being a psychologist!”
Isn't this place too wet for psychologists?
“You can't just change the subject; I know what you’re trying! And I’m just interested in the behavior and psychology of mythical species. I never thought I would encounter one or even interact with one!”
Well too bad for you, I’m just a beast kin who didn't eat his veggies in his youth.
Mr. Psycho inspected me. “Right, you were a therianthrope, where are your ears and tails?”
They’re on paid leave.
“Agnis! Do something! I can't take this any longer!” Giana screamed as her grip around the mast was loosening.
What do you suppose I do? I can’t just tell the sea to calm the fuck down and take a hike! Oh…
“I knew I could count on you! I can hold you so you can focus!”
Always so opportunistic and what? You want us both to get sent flying?
“I don’t mind…” Giana blushed and covered her face with both her hands… Because she stopped holding the mast, she got sent flying.
Psycho followed Giana’s flight with his eyes. “Is this what they call a rising star?”
Very funny… you remind me of an old friend of mine. Do you like flying? You’ve been quite annoying the last couple of minutes.
Mr. Psycho took a step back and I swapped him with Giana and pulled Giana in while I tied myself and Giana to the railing with wires.
“That was scary but totally worth it!”
This woman…
I caught Mr. Psycho in a [Water ball] and the people on board laughed at him. He didn't seem to be upset. He flipped me a finger though.
“You know what, you don’t need to deal with this anymore, I’m fine like this.” Giana said, as she was probably enjoying being tied to me.
The lightning strikes became more frequent, and it looked like the weather had it out for us. A guy who was wearing an electronium watch got zapped by a lightning bolt and got one shot. Oof, this is brutal.
Mr. Psycho approached us. “Having fun all tied up, aren't we?”
“Yes!” Giana said with a radiant smile.
“We should arrive in 2 hours if we’re still alive by then… So, Giana, this guy is quite evasive, he seems to share a lot of core traits with you, are you 2 perhaps from the same race?”
Giana looked at me and then at Mr. Psycho.” It seems you’re already convinced you have your answer, nothing I can tell you will sway your mind. We share the same hometown.”
“So, he also lost everything…”
Hey! I didn't subscribe to getting subjected to pity!
“I’m sorry, it’s just that you are people too, being a mythical being doesn't change that. It’s a bit hard to wrap my mind around.”
Hey, Giana should you really be going around telling everyone?
“They will find out sooner or later either way, you’re not great at staying hidden in situations like these, especially…” Giana blocked another lightning strike that tried to zap us.
You’re starting to sound like Greg now…
Electrical charge flushed away from the deck, and I redirected some lightning bolts away from the ship.
“Especially if you seem to experience the same race-specific problems as I do in public. All my fans know that I only weigh 4.5 kilograms and even that gravity thinks that I’m almost nonexistent”
Wait, you weigh 4.5 kilo?! How! I’m getting close to 1 kilo!
“Hmm, interesting, so being extremely light isn't an anomaly but consistent within the race.”
“How did you manage to get so light!?” Giana inquired while pushing herself more into me, abusing our current situation.
How am I supposed to know?! I should've picked up the gravity branch of spatiotemporal magic… Maybe this is why 9t have an affinity for spatiotemporal magic…
“Shall we learn it together?”
The lightning was terrorizing the whole area, including the ship. The captain became a bit sloppy trying to evade the big lightning strikes.
Alright, screw this! I've had it with this shitty weather!
I unwrapped ourselves, froze myself to the deck and got a tail out. It ran a simulation on some primal language to shut this storm up.
My tail came up with something, and the runes and sentences flowed into my head. Water magic got used to draw primal runes in the clouds.
I had enough of this bullshit!
My tail grabbed on to the mast as my fingers drew lines in the sky, affecting the clouds above us with my superior water mana control
Idac asti ekuna navikaya’a obsah, sudrus nie svaelii, santlus tarangg chet subyatu tempestih. Mali anuna-hadi anos plavga. Mali anuna-hadi anos pratilover. Tempestihr magaraa nirgada chet redatu solyah.
The ocean calmed down, but the sky was still stormy and dropping lightning bolts. At least the wind and waves were quiet now.
Meh, I messed up some runes, writing on clouds is a terrible idea, I meant to also clear away those thunderclouds.
Psycho was going crazy. “Wooow! Is that your native language?”
“No, I have no idea what he said, but at least we don’t have to be afraid of flying off.” Giana put a barrier on some people that were about to get hit by lightning. “So, Agnis what did those words mean? It sounds mysterious.”
Ehh, i just told the clouds to fuck off and the ocean to chill out, but I messed up some runes so the storm only partially obeyed, it's such a pain in the ass.
“It sounds just like a normal magic cast, although I didn't catch the name of the skill.” Giana tried to keep it cool but I could see that she was getting excited.
It is more a command than a skill. I could turn it into a skill, but it's a waste of brainpower. I can get away with fewer words if I master these pain-in-the-ass runes.
Some pink highlights appeared in Giana’s hair which worried me a bit. “Do you need the runes?”
Technically not, but I will need a very good visualization of what I want to happen and that is kinda hard to do when I need to make sure I don't mess up the words or butcher the pronunciation. Maybe when I get more adept with it, I can get away with more.
“It sounds like a pain in the ass indeed…”
“Interesting, can you say something in that language?” Psycho asked. It broke Giana out of her hyper focus as she realized there was someone else here.
I wondered what goes on in her mind. Not sure if I want to know…
Well, yes but that's a bad idea, these are words of truth. If I draw the rune of ‘water’ on a rock, the rock will turn into water, it’s not something to just casually throw around.
“I see. So, what is your native language?” This guy seemed very interested in us and it became a bit annoying.
Giana told him Hourai is our native language and that it doesn't differ much from ancient Kaledonian, and she even spoke some words to him.
“Wait, isn't Hourai his last name?” Psycho asked as he pointed at me.
Uh oh. It seems Giana talked herself into a corner. She looked at me for help.
Yes, it was me! I invented Hourai!
Mr. Psycho gave me a blank stare and Giana facepalmed.
“It’s fine if you can’t tell me.”
Good! Now, what are these people up to?
Everyone seemed serious and was preparing. It seems we've almost reached our destination.
We haven't started yet, and I'm already tired…
Mr. Psycho took out a notebook and started to write. “Are you two planning on showing some mythical beast action?”
Uhh not planning to, but if our target is what I think it is we might have to.
“Oh? I thought we were just hunting tasty salmon.” Giana got the dreamy look again. I snapped my fingers in front of her face.
Giana focus!
“Hmm? Oh, so we’re not hunting tasty salmon?” We are but there is a possibility that we’re dealing with spirit salmon.
Her eyes sparkled and she grabbed my hands. “Ah right! We can finally eat spirit salmon?!”
Psycho held up his hand. “Uhm, excuse me, what is spirit salmon?”
I explained to him what the deal was with Spirit Salmon. “So, the reason we couldn't catch it is that it’s a spirit, eh… but you 2 are spirits, and we can interact with you.”
“Well, ehh, we aren't that in touch with our spirit side…”
Yeah, we suck, don’t use us as an example.
“Hey, I don't suck!” Giana said as I got locked in another headlock.
Anyway, the age of that spirit salmon determines how strong it is, so it might require us to step in.
“Uhh, doesn't that hurt?” Mr. Psycho said while he pointed his pen at me.
Oh, this headlock? Nah, I’m used to it, and she has 0 offensive power.
“Hmmm! How about my new technique? Noelle taught me this one!” Giana tried something, and I struggled against whatever Giana was trying.
Oh no, that's a bad idea, Giana! I don't know what it is but it can’t be good!
“You guys seem really close, I'm a bit envious…”
The seas started to become wild again and something seemed off.
Hey Giana I think our targets have arrived!
“You can't fool me!” Giana said as she turned her ‘0 damage’ headlock into a ‘1 damage’ headlock.
“Hmm so this is your mating strategy” Giana released me and we both looked at Mr. Psycho.
Shall we kick his ass?
Giana [Transformed] and nodded. “I think we should.”
“Hey guys wait I was joking! Wait why are both of your eyes glowing like that?!”
We locked him in an [Ice ball] and rolled him around on the deck.
