Chapter 6: Fine Dining

They went to a nearby noble restaurant to eat. When they walked through the door everything looked grand. The ceilings were high with grand chandeliers hanging from them, the table legs were intricately carved with filigree, along with the chairs, the cushions on the chairs looked like they were made of red velvet, the host and the servers were all dressed as butlers, and there was artwork hanging from the walls. They walked up to the host stand and were greeted by a handsome elf who appeared to be around six and a half feet tall, had charcoal black hair that matched his charcoal black eyes, a small nose and a chin that came to a point.

“Good afternoon Lord Beldroth and Lady Elora, how may I assist you this evening?

“Good afternoon, we would like a table for two please.”

“Will Lady Syvis not be joining us this afternoon?”

“No, she’s been bedridden with this pregnancy, I’m very worried about her and the baby.”

“Understood, right this way please my lord,” he led them to a small table near the window with two chairs underneath it. Two menus appeared in his hand and were placed at each chair while they sat down at the table. “Your server will be with you shortly; would you like me to put in your drink order for you?”

“We’ll both take a sweet tea if you don’t mind.”

“Of course, my lord. I’ll put that in right away,” he walked off to the back for about a minute and brought back two sweet teas and placed them on the table. “Your server is delivering meals to another table right now, he’ll be over immediately afterwards,” he informed them with a smile.

  “Thank you.”

He went back to the host stand. About a minute later a server approached their table, he was a little over six feet tall, had short green hair, blue eyes, the slightly pointed ears of a half-elf and a curved chin. He was quite handsome as well.

“Good afternoon, my name is Gabriel and I’ll be your server this evening, have you had a chance to look over the menu?”

“I will take this the steak from the level three hundred and seventy-five bovine herd leader, with the loaded mashed potatoes and a salad with vinaigrette dressing.”

“Excellent choice my lord, and how would you like that steak prepared?”

“I’ll take it a nice medium if you don’t mind.”

“Of course, my lord, and for my lady?”

“I’ll take the same thing as my father, except instead of the vinaigrette dressing, I’ll take ranch dressing, and I would like my steak prepared medium rare.”

“Of course, my lady. I will get this order put in with the kitchen immediately.”

He went directly to the door to the kitchen.

“So, I have planned to go to the skill book shop and potions, is there anything else you can think of Elora?”

“I think I could use a practice glaive so that I can incorporate the new skills into my training regimen, that’s the only thing I can think of.”

“That’s not a bad idea; we could swing by the adventurer’s guild and see if they have any training weapons for people like you who have put in an order for a new one and don’t currently have one. If they don’t, I don’t think it would be too bad to wait for your glaive, we can even head back to Garkock’s Forge and ask them to deliver on your glaive first so you can start working on your skills.”

The tale has been illicitly lifted; should you spot it on Amazon, report the violation.

“OK father, it’s just that since my lightning skills use mana and my glaive skills will probably use stamina and meditate regenerates both resource pools at the same speed whether they’re regenerating one or both it would make my training more productive to deplete both resource pools then meditate.”

“You’re not wrong there, but you’re still only twelve, you have plenty of time to worry about training, it’s not like you’re going to be able to join the adventurer’s guild yourself until you are fourteen anyways, if it takes longer than a year for you to decide to unlock your class it won’t be a big deal, because if your hypothesis is correct, if you unlock your class a year and a half after everyone else and it’s epic or legendary instead of the much more normal uncommon or sometimes even rare, you will catch up with everyone by the time you are seventeen stat wise, even if you won’t be the same level.”

She laughed internally, because she was already far ahead in almost every stat category, all she had to do was invest her free stat points into toughness and willpower until they catch up to vitality, then she can focus more on her build. While she was only twelve, she was thirty-eight in her mind, and while she was only level four, she was at least level one hundred in her stats. As soon as she unlocked her class she would be ready to set out on her own, however, she should be fine waiting a few years her natural lifespan as a high elf without evolving into a higher tier was longer than a C-grade humans, and much longer than her old lifespan would have been as a human in a system that relies on vitality for longevity instead of a combination of vitality and grade evolution.

“Yes father, you are right. I’m just impatient to get to start training with a weapon and it’s only two weeks, we don’t have to go back to Garkock’s Forge, even if they don’t have a training glaive for me at the adventurer’s guild.”

At this point their server was approaching their table carrying their salad bowls. He placed them down in front of them.

“Sorry for the wait, ranch is not a common request, and they have to make a batch when it’s ordered.”

“It’s no problem, I’ve gotten used to having to wait for my salad when I go out to eat with my daughter here, no idea where she got the taste for ranch from.”

“I appreciate your understanding; the rest of your food will be out shortly.”

He left their table, and they started eating their salads in silence, by the time they had finished Gabriel was already approaching their table again with the rest of their food. He took away their salad bowls and placed their plates in front of them.

“If you don’t mind cutting into your steaks and ensuring they’re cooked to your liking for me, please.”

Elora and Beldroth both cut their steaks in half to discover they were cooked to perfection and informed Gabriel they were. They slowly and silently ate the rest of their dinner. The buffs from the meal were incredible, Elora was tempted to ask her father to swing by the adventurer’s guild to train with the increased mana regeneration, however, she knew that was a bad idea because he would want to go with her, and she was worried about outing her inflated stats.

As soon as they laid down their forks Gabriel was back at their table. “Would you like some desert today?”

“Yes, we would both like some of your cherry glazed cheesecake.”

He picked up their plates. “I will be right back with those.”

He walked in the back and was walking back out with two plates of cheesecake in thirty seconds. He placed them down on the table in front of them with a smile.

“Please enjoy, I’ll be back when you are finished to collect the payment,” he walked away to check on his other tables. They quickly ate their cheesecake, and he was back when they placed their forks down. “How was everything?”

“Incredible like always, how much do I owe you?”

“The total is ten gold, four silver and eight copper.”

Beldroth pulled out eleven gold from his storage ring and handed it to Gabriel.

  “You can keep the change.”

  “Thank you very much sir.”

He proceeded to clear away their empty plates and glasses and walk back into the kitchen area. They got up and walked out of the restaurant.

“Would you like to go get potions, or would you prefer to go ahead and see what skill books are available?”

“Obviously skill books are more exciting than potions, although it would be exciting to discover they had skill potions for sale to increase experience gains.”

“I think they do, but we’ll head to the skill book shop first.”
