Hero and Mints

  Hero & Mints

  “ L-landlord! “

I heard a loud voice calling for our landlord as I was getting up.

Earliest thing in the Sunday morning.

“ I-I will pay my rent soon— “

“ Shut up, you said the same thing for the previous month and it’s previous month too!! “ Yelled our landlord.

Looks like someone has gotten itself into some troubles. Not that it concerns me.

I slowly got up of my bed, yawning and stretching out of laziness, moving out for my daily milk and newspapers.

Just when I was reaching for the door, I found out that they were still arguing over the rent. The other person seems to be in a bad situation though, landlord was destroying her with her words.

Then suddenly, I heard a loud ' THUD ' sound from outside.

Landlord then yelled her last words which were “ You’re out! “ then she casually walked away.

Must have been thrown out of its apartment.

I reached out for the door, just when I opened it, I saw a familiar face . . . .

  “ . . . . . Mints . . . . ?? “

  ( T/N: They are classmates )

There was a girl grooving down on her knees, defeated, with a bag next to her, at the floor.

She noticed my presence, back, when I yelled her name ' Mints '.

Though I called her, she stared at me for few seconds and exclaimed, “ Who are you?? “

A great way to greet your classmates, got it.

I got little frustrated, then left for my milk and daily newspaper, Ignoring Her.

Though I Crossed my paths over her . . . . Why was she still following me!?

I walked straight, she was right behind me, then I took right turn for the down stairs from the second floor, she was still right behind me. Then I turned right again from the end of the stairs, she was still behind me. Then I went straight and left, she was still sticking behind me, following me everywhere!!

I was already at the mail box and she was still behind me . . . . I stopped walking all of sudden. She stopped too. There’s no misunderstanding this, she’s following me.

“ Hey, you stay at that apartment, right?? “ She asked all of sudden which startled me.

  “ Yess “ I replied grumpily

  What does she want—

Then next thing I knew was that she was blowing down to me. She got me confused right there, my brain was lagging and before I could even react to it, she started pleading.

“ PLEASE LET ME STAY WITH YOU!! I don’t have any place to stay at and I’m almost out of money too. I’ll do EVERYTHING you please for, everything so— “

Alright alright alright alright!! What is she even talking about!? People around were even giving me their side eye!! Even I was feeling like a scum of this planet though I know myself that I did nothing.

“ —I-I will even pay— “ she tried to say something but reacted first Instead.

I started whispering to her by getting a little close.

  “ H-Hey, stop it others are— “

“ I heard you need an apartment to stay? “

A fat middle aged man with a balloon stomach and quite pervertedly ugly face approached her.

“ Yes, I need an apartment to stay but— “

“ You can stay at my apartment then!! You don’t even need to pay, just help me with my exhaustion . . . . !! “

I knew this old hag wasn’t at anything good.

Mints gave me an side eye and stuttered “ What!? Really!?

“ Yes!! Then let me— “

  “ You are staying with me . . . . “

I said grabbing her hand by wrist, took my milk, handed the newspaper to her to handle and went past that old man towards my apartment.

She was surprisingly quite at the moment.

We reached my apartment, finally. I’m already exhausted though I just got up 10 minutes ago. That 10 minutes ago feels like an eternity somehow.

There was an uncomfortable silence between us even when we reached my—our apartment.

We really need to sort few things out before living together but before that . . .

“ Let us move out your luggage firstly. “ I suggested.

  “ Yess . . . “ She responded.
