The tech world is buzzing with the "revelation" that Apple owns the iSlate.com domain. But corporations buy and park domain names all the time, and given that Apple bought the domain in 2007, its ownership doesn't amount to a hill of beans.
It's common for corporations to register a slew of domain names, mostly as a defensive measure. If Apple were indeed working on a tablet computer -- as most observers believe is the case -- such a domain registration would make sense. And if Apple wanted to prevent someone else from using the name back in 2007, such a domain registration would make sense.
So don't read too much into this revelation. There's going to a ton of buzz around Apple's activities this month, we hear, and this is most likely a very minor distraction.
